Harry Potter Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Magical Movie Mode

Warner Bros is celebrating the release of the first Harry Potter with a special Digital, DVD and Blu-Ray re-release on August 17. The Philosopher’s Stone, which celebrates its big 20th anniversary this year, kickstarted the franchise back in 2001.

An announcement made on Twitter, titles the re-release as “Magical Movie Mode” – Have a peek.

Newer, younger fans are constantly discovering the magic of Harry Potter and with the big two-oh buzzing in, Warner Bros wants to give us all a treat.

While a few considered the Harry Potter book series to be a passing phenomenon of the late 90s, its theatrical debut gave life to a franchise full of possibilities, and of course, a direct connect to audiences beyond the reach of books.

Building up this world for screen was no small task, as you will hear from director Chris Columbus himself, who will be providing a special director’s commentary on Philosopher’s Stone in Magical Movie Mode.

His time in the franchise was short, having directed only the first two movies. Nonetheless, it would be a real treat to hear the director’s anecdotes of turning pages of a book into visual reality.

Columbus’ personal insights will be accompanied by exclusive behind-the-scenes as well as audio and graphic interjections for special scenes.

After The Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter mania took over the world, with young Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Tom Felton becoming household names.

The world grew even bigger, opening up room for stories beyond the young wizards and allowing fans to explore not only the past and future (Fantastic Beasts and Cursed Child, respectively) but also their own identities in their beloved universe, through interactive modes like Pottermore.

Radcliffe has put to rest rumors of any upcoming reunions, but Warner Bros will be keeping the magic alive as they have promised a few more releases before the year ends.
