New Animated Green Lantern Project Reportedly Being Developed

A Green Lantern animated movie could be in the works at DC. Following the recent success of the franchise with Wonder Woman 1984 and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, this could be the perfect time to bring back Hal Jordan to the screens.

A recent Reddit thread has teased the news, which many speculate could be an adaptation of Sinestro Corps War. In 2008, the executive editor of DC Comics, Dan DiDio, expressed an interest in developing the film as part of the DC Universe’s Animated Originals.

Furthermore, during the early development of the 2012 Green Lantern sequel, the main plot was to follow the same storyline of Sinestro Corps War until it was canceled.

Created by John Broome and Gil Kane, Sinestro was first introduced in Green Lantern (vol. 2) in August 1961 as a Green Lantern Corps member and assigned to be Hal Jordan’s instructor.

However, he was banished by the Guardians due to having wrongly used the powers of Green Lantern to instill fears in others.

In the mid-credits scene of 2011’s Green Lantern, Sinestro was seen to put on the yellow ring of fear, thus establishing his evil turn. In the comics after his banishment, he’s since developed his own antagonistic team called the Sinestro Corps and fought Hal Jordan’s gang from time to time.

But fans have been hoping for a long time to see the comic book crossover event written by Geoff Johns and other DC Creatives that pitted the Green Lantern Corps against Sinestro Corps in an interstellar war.

The film could also include the other members of Jordan’s group, including Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Kyle Rayner, as well as Sinestro’s daughter, Soranik Natu, who became the de facto leader of the Yellow Corps during her father’s absence, and supervillain Mongul.

Recently, director Zack Snyder has shown interest in helming a Green Lantern adaptation and revealed he included John Stewart in his version of Justice League.

However, pressured by Warner Bros., he had to remove the footage from the final product, although he was very embittered by the action. Snyder also gave a glimpse of actor Wayne T. Carr in character as Stewart, which the multitudes have now reshared. Check it out here:

Mark Strong portrayed Sinestro in the live-action film and has been voiced by many prominent actors in other animated features. In recent years, actor Nathan Fillion has lent his voice for Hal Jordan after Ryan Reynolds, who famously played the character, voiced his dissatisfaction over the film.

But as to who could play the characters in the upcoming animated movie, remains uncertain till now.
