June 2023 Release for New ‘Star Trek’ Movie

A new Star Trek movie is officially headed our way, with a release date set for June 2023. The franchise was rebooted in 2009 with J.J. Abrams as director and became massively successful. But following 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, which closed the trilogy with the lowest box-office gains, interest in the series seemed to die down.

However, today, Paramount made many changes to its upcoming movie release slate, which included the new Star Trek movie’s announcement. The film, which remains untitled as of now, will premiere in theatres on June 9, 2023. Cast and crew members have not been confirmed yet, but it looks like the studio is moving ahead based on a plan.

This announcement comes only a month after Paramount hired Kalinda Vazquez, a writer on Star Trek: Discovery, to work on a new movie script. As more and more directors like Quentin Tarantino and Noah Hawley seem to be delaying their films, there is a possibility that the studio will go ahead with Vazquez’s final vision.

With Star Trek getting renewed for the big screen, it’s going to be interesting to see whether Paramount can recapture fans’ interest again. Even though the franchise has had a long-standing fanbase, the movies have never been major hits compared to other franchises. But this time, the studio could keep the budget at a minimum to boost its box-office prospects.

Ever since the trilogy concluded, Paramount has been looking for new directions the franchise could venture into. Currently, they’re cashing in on from their small-screen projects like Star Trek: Discovery and Picard

They’ve also worked with Tarantino, S.J. Clarkson, and many other directors on new movies. The project lineup also includes ideas for Star Trek 4 and some other originals with an all-new cast.

Although no further details have been revealed yet, here’s hoping we won’t have to wait too long for additional information on 2023’s Star Trek.
