A Quiet Place Review: A Monster Film Like No Other

A Quiet Place is the kind of film that is written only once in a while and leaves you with more questions than answers. Written by Bryan Wood, Scott Beck, and John Krasinski, this film is about a family trying to survive amidst a land ridden and dominated by monsters.

Well, there’s just so much to say about this film that a few words won’t suffice. A Quiet Place is one of those few films in the monster/alien genre that stands out. It’s the perfect blend of action, adrenaline, and thrill.

To top it all, it makes you believe those characters are real and makes you invest in them emotionally. As far as I know, very few alien/monster films do that.

2. Is It Worth Watching?

Yes! A hundred times yes! You won’t be able to take your eyes from the screen even for a second. You’ll gasp, you’ll shout, you’ll feel your heart pounding, and you might even have a few tiny drops of tears. So watch it!

These kinds of movies don’t get made that often. Don’t miss them.

3. Plot

A Quiet Place is set in the United States in the current era. (Yeah, monsters are always attracted to that country alone. Maybe there’s something in Area 51. Who knows!)

Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place

The film begins in a dystopian setting where most of the population has been destroyed by monsters who are blind and are hypersensitive to human sound range and frequency. In this hopeless situation, we see a family of two parents and three kids trying to survive and make it without getting killed.

They do not speak because the monsters can hear and immediately come for them. So instead, they communicate in sign language. What happens to this family as they try to make it through one day at a time is the story.

I know, right! Sounds intense.

4. Cast And Characters

John Krasinski and Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place

The film stars John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe. And besides these four characters, you’ll only see a random man in the woods and a baby. There are no other actors in the film. It sounds eerie already!

In a film where you don’t have dialogues, your expressions are everything. And somehow, I was able to connect and empathize with these characters on a much deeper level, though they didn’t even speak.

There’s probably some poetic meaning behind that. But, it just makes me wonder how, when it comes to survival, the emotions and thoughts are so limited, yet so profound.

It’s almost like all the unnecessary superficiality is taken away, and all that is left is the core emotions and instincts of humans. The depiction of that core is so accurate and real. All credit goes to the cast and the writers!

4/5

Story: A+

Overall, this film is a profound work of art. A must-watch for anyone looking for an impeccable screenplay that will leave you at the edge of your seats; I know that sounds cliche, but believe me, you just might fall from your seat. Beware!
