All Easter Eggs and References in Spider-Man: No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a treat for all Spidey and MCU fans filled with nostalgia, callbacks, Easter Eggs, and references that surpass the MCU and delve into Sony’s versions of the superhero.

If you still haven’t watched the film, and if you can’t handle the suspense, well don’t worry, I’m here to your rescue with all the tidbits from the film. But if you’re not a fan of spoilers, I suggest you quickly go to the farthest corner of the web because the internet is filled with spoilers of No Way Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has easter eggs and references to Iron Man, Sony’s versions of Spider-Man, Daredevil, and also sets up different character arcs such as Dr. Strange, Wanda, and their future in the MCU.

Evidently, there’s a lot to unpack here, so let me jump straight in.

1. DUM-E

When Peter Parker and Aunt May shift to Happy’s apartment, the very first thing we see is a machine behind the dining table, labeled DUM-E. This is a callback from Iron Man, where Tony Stark tests his new suit and calls the machine Dummy.

2. Rogers Musical

As Spider-Man and MJ swing to find a safe haven, we see a brief glimpse of the Rogers Musical popster. This means the events might be taking place at about the same time as the events of Hawkeye.

3. Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock

We see Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in a brief scene where he gives Spider-Man and Happy Hogan legal advice. This confirms that he will be playing Daredevil even in the MCU, just like he did in the Netflix series. Furthermore, considering the Kingpin has appeared in the Hawkeye series, will the two characters’ paths cross soon?

4. The Department Of Damage Control

The Department Of Damage Control is a group of people who clean up after a superhero battle. They are a nod to the organization that has existed in the comics as well since about 1988. Furthermore, they were initially a part of S.H.I.E.L.D but, after Homecoming, were absorbed by the US Government.

5. Nick Fury is Off-Planet

When Spider-Man tries to explain how Nick Fury knows everything about Mysterio to the Damage Control official, he says Nick Fury is not on the planet for the last year. This could be a possible hint at his character appearing in Secret Invasions along with the Skrulls since we already saw in lounging in a Skrull ship in the Far From Home post-credit scene.

6. Howard Stark in Midtown High

In the scene where Peter is too nervous while standing before the faculty, if you look behind them, you’ll see a mural of Howard Stark amongst other real-world inspiration figures.

7. FEAST

Aunt May is seen working for a charitable organization known as the FEAST. The organization is set up by Martin Li, AKA Mister Negative. In the PS4 Spider-Man game, Mister Negative is one of the main villains, and this could be a hint at him entering the MCU as well.

8. MJ’s Real Name

MJ or Michelle Jones’ full name is Michelle Jones-Watson. This is revealed towards the end of the film and references the comics and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, where the name is MJ Watson.

9. Spider-Man Villains From The Sony Universe

We already know that five villains from Sony’s versions of Spider-Man have come in search of Peter Parker in No Way Home. The villains are:

  • Green Goblin
  • Dr. Octopus
  • Electro
  • Sandman
  • Lizard

At different points, each of them refers to how they died at the hands of Spider-Man, AKA Peter Parker.

The villains that didn’t show up are:

  • Venom (From Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 3)
  • Rhino (From Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-man 2)

However, both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield refer to these two characters and how they fought them.

We also see Tom Hardy’s Venom from the Sony Universe for a brief mid-credits scene in the film.

10. The Comic Green Goblin Attire

In the film, we see Norman Osborn fighting against the voice inside his head, and so he breaks his helmet and covers the rest of the suit with purple-ish brown robes. We see him on the Goblin Glider with his suit, purple robes, and the hood up in the pre-climax scene. Again, this refers to the OG Goblin attire we know from the comics.

11. Norman Osborn: I’m Something Of A Scientist Myself

This dialogue has been meme material for content creators for so many years. Norman Osborn says this in Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. In No Way Home, when Peter Parker tries to cure all these supervillains, Norman offers to help by uttering this dialogue.

12. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man

Both the Spider-Men appear from the alternate universes. We see all the three Spider-Men in action doing all the nerdy things while also fighting off all the supervillains. The two also talk about their history, and some things come up.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield

Tobey Maguire:

  • He talks about how the guy who killed his Uncle Ben got shot too, and it didn’t make him feel any better.
  • He also mentions his own MJ Watson, AKA Mary Jane Watson.
  • Harry Osborn is also spoken about as the best friend who died in his arms while trying to kill him.

Andrew Garfield:

  • He talks about how he couldn’t save Gwen Stacy, his girlfriend, and blamed himself for it every day.

Besides these major ones, we also see a few conversations that are nostalgic references.

  • Tobey is seen stretching his back because he has a problem there. This is a reference to him in Spider-Man 2 when he thinks he’s got back his powers but instead falls down several stories and groans, “My back….”
  • Tobey and Tom talk about how they’ve fought aliens and gone to space, which makes Andrew feel like a loser. Tobey being the nice guy he is tells that Andrew is “amazing.” This is a nod to his duology Spider-Man film title.
  • One of the hilarious ones, though, is a reference to the web-shooters. Both Tom and Andrew have to make their web, whereas Tobey just gets them out of his wrist any time he wants.
  • There’s also a reference made by Jamie Foxx’s Electro, who hopes there’s also a black Spider-Man in the multiverse. This again is a reference to Miles Morales from Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse.

13. Electro’s New Look

Electro’s blue look in The Amazing Spider-Man was not appreciated by the comic fans. So in this film, we see him get a makeover that shares a little more resemblance with the comic book costume.

14. Captain America’s Shield on the Statue of Liberty

In Hawkeye, Yelena mentions how she wants to visit the new and improved Statue of Liberty, and now we know this is what she meant – A golden-bronze-ish Statue of Liberty with Captain America’s Shield on top instead of the torch. However, in the fight scene, we see the shield fall and get destroyed.

15. Andrew Garfield Saves a Falling MJ

This is a callback to Gwen Stacy’s death and how Andrew could never save her. In No Way Home, just as Tom is about to catch MJ, he’s whacked off by the Goblin Glider. Andrew sees this and leaps to save MJ and ends up saving it, almost feeling sad and redeemed at the same time.

16. With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

In the pre-climax fight between the Green Goblin and Spider-Man, Aunt May gets fatally hurt, and just before dying, she utters one of pop culture’s most famous dialogues.

Aunt May

Later on, when the three Spider-Men come face to face, Tom recalls what she said. As he says her last words, Tobey completes the sentence and tells how his Uncle Ben told him this before dying.

17. Tom Holland’s New Apartment

At the end of the film, after everyone’s gone back to their own universes and nobody remembers Peter Parker, he rents an apartment that looks uncannily similar to that of Tobey Maguire’s in Spider-Man 2 and 3.

18. The New Spider-Man Suit

For some reason, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker doesn’t have his Iron Suit or the Stark Suit. Instead, we see a shot of some red and blue pieces of cloth over a sewing machine in his room. This means he’s created his own suit.
