All Easter Eggs in the New WandaVision Trailer

At this point, every new trailer from Marvel’s WandaVision is a comic-book fan’s dream- while the general plot of the series still remains quite blurry, fans have been on the hunt for Easter eggs, and the trailers did not disappoint. What does the new trailer offer about the sitcom-like life of Wanda and Vision? And how does it tie in with the other MCU projects?

1. Commercials

Commercials were an important part of sitcoms for a long time. WandaVision, which will explore the history of American sitcoms, will have commercials that are integral to the narrative of the show and the future of MCU’s Phase 4. According to MCU President Kevin Feige’s interview with ComicBook, HYDRA might make a return in the show. He says-

“Commercials was an early idea for that. If this is the very first Marvel, MCU thing you’re watching, it’s just a strange version of a 50s commercial or 60s commercial. If you have been watching all those movies, you might be able to start connecting what all those things mean from the past.”

2. Identity of the Beekeeper

In a previous trailer, the viewers can see Wanda watching in wonder as a man, wearing a beekeeper’s outfit, pops out of a manhole in their quiet suburban neighborhood. In the new trailer, the identity of this mysterious man is revealed somewhat. A logo on the back of his uniform suggests he is from S.W.O.R.D, an organization that is to extraterrestrial threats what S.H.I.E.L.D is to domestic threats.

Earlier, Monica Rambeau (Teyonnah Parris) was revealed to be a S.W.O.R.D agent and some photos show her standing in front of a building that had the same logo as the beekeeper’s uniform. Also, Nicky Fury and Maria Hill were dealing with the invasions of the Skrulls and working with an unknown organization at the end of Spider: Far from Home. This unknown organization might be S.W.O.R.D. All of this points to the fact that S.W.O.R.D will become the successor of S.H.I.E.L.D and will be majorly involved in Phase 4.

3. Tie-In with Doctor Strange 2

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted a scene of Oz the Great and Powerful playing in the background of the new trailer. Many believe this is a reference to the director of the film, Sam Raimi, who had helmed the Tobey Maguire starring Spider-Man films. Raimi is coming back to the world of Marvel and will direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Wanda Maximoff will be a crucial character in the Multiverse of Madness and the film is scheduled to tie together WandaVision and Spider-Man 3.

Some other fans have noted that a voice in the new trailer is trying to reach Wanda, suggesting that she is not in an alternate reality but a dream-state or an induced coma. Fans believe that the voice might belong to Nightmare, a villain in the Doctor Strange comics, who might be the primary antagonist in Multiverse of Madness.

Of course, much of this is just speculation. WandaVision has become one of the most anticipated yet most secretive projects of the MCU.

WandaVision premiers on Disney+ on January 15th, 2021.
