All Loose Ends in Peacemaker Season 1

Peacemaker season 1 ended with a bang but also left numerous arcs and plot points reserved for the upcoming season. HBO Max has renewed Peacemaker for season 2, but we still don’t know anything about its premise, story, etc.

I looked back at all the character moments in the season finale to see how James Gunn has ended season 1 and how the different arcs might be developed in Peacemaker season 2 or other spin-off series in the same universe.

So I’ve made a list of all the unanswered questions, incomplete arcs, and loose ends of Peacemaker season 1. Let’s get into it.

Peacemaker season 1 left numerous arcs open-ended. What will happen to characters such as Amanda Waller, Judomaster, and Peacemaker might be explored in season 2 or other spin-offs.

1. Amanda Waller and A.R.G.U.S

Amanda Waller was exposed by her daughter, Leota Adebayo. In a press conference post the final battle, she shed light on how A.R.G.U.S operated and gave an overview of its illicit activities.

This leaves Waller in a huge mess which can be explored in season 2.

We might see Waller seek vengeance against Task Force X, Peacemaker, and even her daughter. Furthermore, there’s also a chance that this would lead to the organization’s dissolution that gave us The Suicide Squad and would put Waller on a new path.

2. Peacemaker and His Trauma

After killing his father, The White Dragon, in episode 7, Peacemaker could not leave his traumatic past behind. In fact, it only got worse since he began hallucinating and seeing his father in different places.

Season 1 ends with The White Dragon sitting next to Peacemaker, and while we all know it’s merely a figment of Peacemaker’s imagination, it will still stir up problems for the titular character in the future.

Season 2 might further explore this facet of Peacemaker and take him down a path of catharsis or destruction.

3. Judomaster and His Relationship with the Butterflies

Judomaster is very much alive at the end of season 1 and, surprisingly, wasn’t part of the finale battle between Task Force X and the butterflies.

The Queen Butterfly mentions him and tells Peacemaker about how Judomaster chose to side with the butterflies.

Besides this mention, we see Judomaster arrive at the scene after the task force has left and, for the first time, cries. While we don’t know much about Judomaster’s origins or how he sided with the butterflies, it’d be interesting to see what he does in Peacemaker season 2.

4. The Queen Butterfly (Goff) and Its Survival

Peacemaker decided to not kill the Queen Butterfly after shooting Detective Song. In the closing scene, we also see Peacemaker pour the last of the honey for Goff’s butterfly to drink.

While it is safe to assume that without the Cow, no butterfly will be alive for long, we still don’t see Goff’s butterfly dying. Whether James Gunn has intentionally left this open-ended or he’s trying to keep it subtle, we’ll only know when season 2 comes out.

5. Peacemaker and the Justice League

We saw the Justice League make a small appearance in the season finale, thus officially making Peacemaker a part of the DCEU. Was this cameo merely to showcase this, or did it hint at something more significant in the works.

Peacemaker & Justice League

James Gunn did mention in an interview that currently, he’s working on another spin-off that will exist in the same universe. So will we see Peacemaker or the Justice League or both make a cameo in that? I guess we’ll have to wait and find out.

6. Conclusion

These are all the unanswered questions and loose ends I found at the end of Peacemaker season 1. Considering it was a huge success, I’m hoping James Gunn has some great story in the works, and I can’t wait to find out what it is.
