Smallville’s Allison Mack Apologizes Ahead Of Sex Cult Case Sentence

“I have experienced overwhelming shame as I have worked to accept and understand all that went on and all that I chose,” said Smallville actor Allison Mack in a statement she released ahead of her sex cult case related sentencing.

Allison Mack is known for playing Chloe Sullivan in 10 seasons of the Superman prequel series Smallville.

Mack offered an apology in her statement to the federal judge, who will be the one handling her case on June 30. Mack is set to be sentenced after pleading guilty to racketeering and conspiracy charges in connection with the NXIVM sex cult case.

Excerpt from Allison Mack’s apology statement,

I threw myself into the teachings of Keith Raniere with everything I had. I believed, whole-heartedly, that his mentorship was leading me to a better, more enlightened version of myself. I devoted my loyalty, my resources, and, ultimately, my life to him. This was the biggest mistake and greatest regret of my life.

For those unaware of the case, NXIVM (pronounced ‘Nexium’) was an American cult that engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor, and racketeering while claiming to be a multi-level marketing company.

Founder and owner Keith Raniere is said to have manipulated his followers psychologically and encouraged them to participate in master and slave relationships. Raniere encouraged these abominable acts under the guise of ‘self-improvement.’

Mack’s apologies were included with more than a half-dozen letters from friends and family members to U.S. District Court Judge Nicholas Garaufis testifying to Mack’s transformation since her arrest. The FBI arrested Raniere and Mack alongside several other NXIVM members in 2018.

The list of those harmed by the collateral damage of my destructive choices continues to grow as I become more and more aware of how my choices have affected those around me. I am grateful that I have made it through this process alive and that I was stopped when I was.

Mack pleaded guilty in April 2019, and prosecutors have asked the judge for leniency on account of Mack’s cooperation in the case, as she provided an audio recording that was played multiple times during Raniere’s sentencing and helped expose him. Raniere was sentenced in October to 120 years in prison on racketeering and sex trafficking charges.

Mack is due for sentencing on June 30 at the Jack B. Weinstein Ceremonial Courtroom.

The case has been a topic of various media projects, including Starz’s true-crime documentary Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult, CBC’s podcast Uncover Season 1 – Escaping NXIVM, and HBO’s mini docuseries The Vow.
