Will Liam Neeson retire from acting in action films?

Amazon Prime Video has dropped a minute-long teaser for its highly anticipated The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series, and it gets you wondering, “So this is what a show costing $465 million looks like.”

A few days ago when Prime Video dropped an array of new posters, revealing the first look at the primary cast/characters, each image was more impressive than the other, with impeccable attention to detail.

Now that the teaser is here, it really does look like the most expensive TV series ever made, and rest assured, fans will surely be invested for all the 50 hours and five seasons worth of content it has planned.

The teaser was released during Super Bowl Spot and takes the audience to witness the forging of the original rings of power during the Second Age, set thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

“Haven’t you ever wondered what else is out there?” wonders a young mysterious narrator as the world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s LOTR is realized – the camera guiding the viewer onto some breathtakingly scenic spots.

We get quick glimpses at various essential moments in the series, like Mairon’s body in flames, marking his descent into becoming Sauron, Galadriel’s ascent, Elrond, with new fierce characters such as a dwarven princess Disa and an elf named Arondir.

Showcasing Middle-earth’s magnificent forests and caves with grand elven palaces of the Elves and caverns of the Dwarves, the clip has the nostalgic element of going back to the world we first saw in the Lord of the Rings trilogy but also feels uniquely original.

The promotional material so far looks promising. However, a few fans expressed their dislike about the show being far more diverse than the Peter Jackson trilogy.

In response to this backlash, executive producer Lindsey Weber had the perfect response and told Vanity Fair,

It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of [author J.R.R.] Tolkien’s work would reflect what the world actually looks like. Tolkien is for everyone. His stories are about his fictional races doing their best work when they leave the isolation of their own cultures and come together.

Titled Shadow of the Past, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power pilot will premiere on September 2 on Prime Video.
