Amazon Announces Premiere Date As Lord Of The Rings S1 Wraps Filming

Mark your calendars because Amazon Studios has announced the date for its The Lord of the Rings series.

The epic drama show will premiere on September 2, 2022, exclusively on Prime Video. According to a new press release, episodes will release weekly, with the first season consisting of eight episodes.

The Amazon Original series that is yet to be titled will premiere in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, with new episodes available weekly.

The synopsis reads:

The new epic drama brings to screens for the very first time J.R.R. Tolkien’s fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. Beginning in a time of relative peace, thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.

Amazon also dropped the first official image from the series. A source told IGN that the shot is from the first episode of the series, but the character or setting is unknown.

This news comes after the studios announced that filming had officially wrapped up. Production for the series had been going on for months in New Zealand.

According to the press release, the world-renowned literary work, The Lord of the Rings was named Amazon customers’ favorite book of the millennium in 1999.

The Lord of the Rings books have been translated into around 40 languages and have sold more than 150 million copies.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an American TV series, based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, developed by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay for streaming on Amazon Prime. 

Set 3,000 years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the show will be set in the Second Age of Middle-earth. Beginning with a time of peace, the series will follow the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron and the forging of the rings of power.

The cast includes Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, and Dylan Smith among many others.
