‘Aquaman 2’: Amber Heard Begins Preparing for Mera’s Return

Amber Heard recently revealed in an Instagram post that she has begun training for Aquaman 2, which will see her return as Mera. Following the introduction of Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros. passed on the keys for a standalone Curry film to James Wan, whose take on it was a box office hit.

Now, with a sequel in development, actors are finally getting back in shape to prepare for their respective roles. Among them is actress Amber Heard who played Mera, the princess of Xebel, and Curry’s love interest.

In an Instagram post, the actress shared an image of herself working out and confirmed in the caption that it was indeed for Aquaman 2. However, the post itself does not reveal any further details about what Mera will be up to in the sequel. Check out the post here:

Other Aquaman cast members aside; Heard was the only one to reprise her role for a brief appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League that made its debut in March of this year. However, that didn’t require her to go through any serious physical training. But considering the upcoming long production ahead, the actress is not cutting corners with her fitness regimen.

Heard is also joined by her Aquaman 2 co-stars who are currently training as well. Patrick Wilson recently shared a similar post showing his workout, and so did Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, both of whom will be reprising their previous roles as Ocean Master and Black Manta, respectively.

But with the tease of Heard’s return to the franchise, it can be confirmed that the actress will neither be cut out nor replaced in her role from the sequel. As a consequence of her ongoing legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, many fans wanted Warner Bros. to have her replaced, especially after the production company asked Depp to walk away from his role in Fantastic Beasts 3. However, it seems that is not the case.

Aquaman 2, which has been in the works for almost two years now, is scheduled for release on December 16, 2022. Director James Wan and screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will be making their comebacks for the sequel as well.
