Aquaman 2 Director Welcomes Back Amber Heard For Sequel

With the team of Aquaman preparing to start production of (the recently revealed title) Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, director James Wan welcomes back Amber Heard on board, dispelling rumors of Heard being fired due to controversies with Johnny Depp.

Heard, in response, went on to share a welcome note from the director clad in some very fancy stationery.

Long before the affirmative note, Heard has also been cementing her inclusion in Aquaman 2 with throwback pictures and behind-the-scenes training for the first film. Now, there is no doubt left that we can expect to see her as Mera once again.

Following fixed filming procedures, Heard is expected to be in quarantine for the next two weeks before going to set. This matches up with Momoa’s own statement of filming commencing in July, 2021.

The success of Aquaman led to the immediate decision of a sequel in 2018 itself. In what may seem like a rather lax process (and perhaps aided by the pandemic and casting controversies with Heard), the second installment is due to hit theatres only in 2022.

Wan previously also directed the first Aquaman film and is joined by Jason Momoa playing the title role and the familiar faces of Patrick Wilson as Orm and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.

There are no official details out on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom but its former working title of “Necrus” rooted in Aquaman lore may give us a hint.

About Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a 2023 American superhero film based on the DC character Aquaman. Produced by DC Studios, Atomic Monster, and the Safran Company, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is the sequel to Aquaman (2018), and the 15th and final installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

The film was directed by James Wan from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry / Aquaman, alongside Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Randall Park, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison, Martin Short, and Nicole Kidman.

In the film, Arthur must work with his half-brother Orm (Wilson) to prevent Black Manta (Abdul-Mateen II) from killing his family and using the cursed Black Trident to overheat the world while searching for the lost seventh kingdom of the seas.
