How much are you willing to sacrifice for the greater good? Thirty men and their leader? A family fortune? Your child’s right to marry who they want? Your own mother? Or all of the above? A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, that was the price to truly live.
Tony Gilroy’s masterpiece has shown us the costs of being a true hero. And it is not as flowery as it sounds.
The penultimate episode of Andor is a well-made broth of action, emotion, and everything in between.
After the prison heist last week, Andor and Melshi struggle to survive on the unforgiving Narkina planet.
Cassian gets the news of his mother’s death and prepares to see her one last time. Meanwhile, conditions on his home planet are messy.
On Ferrix, Mon Mothma is forced to pull off a classic Game of Thrones move and initiate a child marriage for political motives.
We are heading into the final week of Andor season 1 with a heavy heart and a bucket full of curiosity. The finale is undoubtedly going to be amazing!
1. Episode 12 Synopsis/Speculation
Let’s Call it WarSaw Gerrera
Full-on carnage is on the cards as Ferrix prepares itself for the catastrophe that will engulf it next week. The season finale will be the ultimate face-off between the Imperial Empire and the rebellion group.
With Maarva dead, ISB officers Dedra Meero and Syril Karn insist on a big funeral so that it could attract the rebel leaders, especially Cassian. If they can make the funeral grand enough, Cassian is bound to turn up.
Not just the Empire, but even Luthen Rael is aware of Cassian’s probable visit to Ferrix. We see him travel to some unknown land via his haulcraft. Maybe he is going to Ferrix after visiting Coruscant.
So, Ferrix will likely be the center of attraction in the season finale. All the loose threads that surfaced midway through the season are slowly starting to make sense.
The promo of the last two episodes contains scenes of a violent mutiny in Ferrix. This mutiny will bleed into season two and lay the foundation for the events of Rogue One.
Meanwhile, Bix Caleen is still inside the torture chambers of Dr. Gorst. Dedra Meero knows that Bix will not be able to endure another dose of Dr. Gorst’s torture device. They want to know about Anto Kreegyr and his connection with Cassian.
Will Bix Caleen give in? Will she be able to get out of prison in the season finale? Maybe Luthen Rael’s pseudo-Jedi heroics will help her escape!
Talking about Luthen Rael, am I the only one who thinks he might be a Jedi?
While there isn’t any definitive proof, we have gotten several easter eggs that point towards Luthen being a Jedi.
In Aldhani, when Cassian asks Vel about Luthen’s identity, he replies, “He’s something we will never discuss.”
Notice that he says ‘something’ and not ‘someone’. It could also refer to a spy, but I think it is deeper than that.
The final bit of evidence comes in the form of his haulcraft armed with gigantic lightsabers, which he uses to defeat the Empire’s jets. This, combined with his extraordinary skill in space wars, only helps my hypothesis.
Meanwhile, Cassian and Melshi struggle to survive in the remotest parts of Narkina. Where are the others who escaped the prison heist last week? Did all of them die?
We still don’t have confirmation of Kino Loy’s death. Maybe he will be used as a pawn to get to Cassian by the Narkina-5 guards. We can’t rule out the possibility of an alliance between ISB and the Narkina-5 officials to trace Cassian and the other prisoners.
In the final moments of episode 11, Gilroy makes it very clear that the transformation of Andor from a self-centered thief to a rebel is finally complete.
Andor has just gotten the news of Maarva’s death. With a heavy heart, he watches the sun rise above the horizon. Watching Cassian process the news of his mother’s demise is really heartbreaking.
The scene takes us back to the sad memories of Rogue One. This moment fully sets up the finale and prepares him for a path of tragedy, a tragedy that will bring new hope in a hopeless world.

5. Andor Episode 11 Recap
If you were in your spaceship and missed this week’s episode, then we have got you covered:
In this week’s episode, Cassian and Melshi try to navigate through the harsh terrains of Narkina planet. They have recently escaped the deadly Narkina-5 prison and must go away as far as possible to avoid getting caught again.
Meanwhile, Cassian’s mother, Maarva, is dead. She dies from an unknown disease that was referred to in a previous episode. Her electronic pet, B2EMO, turns into a depressed character and asks its new human to stay for one night.
This makes us wonder how Cassian will react to the news of his mother’s death.
On Ferrix, Bix Caleen is still getting tortured by Dr. Gorst and his inhuman device. This time, they want information about Anto Kreegyr and his potential connections with Cassian. Dedra Meero seems sure that Caleen will crack under the torture she’s going through.
The episode’s highlight is Luthen Rael’s heated exchange with Saw Gerrera. Saw Gerrera accuses him of being a part of the ISB. Luthen Rael declares that he is heartless and will do anything to keep the rebellion intact.
A mortal combat seems to be on the cards between the two, but it gets negated eventually as Luthen leaves.
In the end, Cassian finally gets the news of his mother’s demise. Contrary to our expectations, he is quiet and looks at the sun rising on the horizon as the screen blacks out. War is undoubtedly on the cards.
