The latest episode 10 of Andor sets up Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s, popular duo, Cassian Andor and Ruescott Melshi together.
In last week’s episode, Andor, Kino Loy and the others decide that they have no escape from the Imperial Facility if they wait for their sentences to end. Thus, the prisoners decide to plan a heist and escape prison.
In episode 10, Andor and the prisoners rise up against Imperial officers and make their escape. Everyone except Kino Loy manages to escape, as he can’t swim. The prisoners end up scattering in all directions. The ending of the episode marks the beginning of a significant partnership, as we see Andor and Melshi setting off together.
The makers of Andor have been setting up the prison storyline as an origin story for Rebellion all along. Duncan Pow appeared as Ruescott Melshi as early as episode 8 of the series, when Cassian was first brought into the facility. Now, episode 10 ends with Andor and Melshi teaming up.
As we know, Andor and Melshi together play an important role in Rogue One. Andor episode 10’s ending sets up this partnership and also explains why their bond has always been so strong in Rogue One.
Just before Rogue One’s climax, Cassian, Jyn and the others are joined by a huge chunk of Rebel soldiers. These soldiers are all up for helping with the daring mission. At this point, Cassian says that they’ve all done terrible things for the Rebellion.
Interestingly, the soldiers are all ready to follow Cassian irrespective of his background. We also see that Melshi is in front and center during this time. It was always strange how Melshi and the other rebels were so willing to break with the rest of the Rebellion and be a part of this dangerous mission. But Andor’s bond with Melshi explains it better.
There’s a real sense of loyalty between the duo as they began their journey together by escaping prison. At the end of Andor episode 10, we see Andor and Melshi heading off together to an unknown land. We will most likely also see the duo formally joining the Rebellion in the series.
However, the Rebellion is too fractured at this point in the show. So, whatever version of the Alliance Andor and Melshi potentially join, it won’t be similar to what we see in Rogue One and A New Hope.
In A New Hope, it was mentioned that the Rebels had an outpost on Dantooine before moving their operations to Yavin 4. So, if the duo ends up anywhere significant in the last two episodes of season one, it might be Dantooine.
We still have two episodes left before Andor season 1 ends, so let’s hope we get more of Andor and Melshi in the upcoming episodes.
