No MCU movie is complete without a couple of post-credit scenes, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is no different. In fact, Quantumania is one of the best MCU productions in terms of its post-credit scenes.
There are two post-credit scenes in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The first scene is mid-credit scene which sets up the MCU’s upcoming project, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The next scene is an end-credits scene, which connects the film to Loki season 2.
Both scenes are extremely significant in the sense that it sets up future MCU projects and connects Quantumania with other upcoming MCU ventures. It also introduces us to a couple of new characters who will be significant in the future of the MCU.
Let’s break down the two post-credit scenes of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and see what it means for the future of the MCU.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Mid-Credits Scene Explained
The first end credits scene of Quantumania introduces us to the Council of Kangs, which is going to play an important role in the MCU in future. We first see a trio of Kangs, after which we eventually come across more Variants of Kang who together decide to bring down the Avengers.
The first Kang Variant is Pharaoh Rama-Tut – the OG tyrant Kang from the Marvel Comics. When Kang grew tired of life in the future, he decided to turn back the clock and conquer Ancient Egypt, using his advanced technology to rule as pharaoh with an iron fist. But even with his incredible powers, he couldn’t evade the time-traveling Avengers and other Marvel heroes who eventually overthrew him.
The other two Variants are equally familiar to those who’ve read the comics, as they may be connected to classic Kang personas from the comics. Another interesting Kang Variant we meet in the scene is Immortus, who has a different history associated with him. But we’ll talk about him later.
The scene features a trio of Kangs in deep discussion about the Exiled One, who they reveal was killed by an Avenger. The Kangs are worried about the Avengers meddling with the Multiverse, as this could have catastrophic consequences for their hard-won achievements.
That’s why Immortus takes action and calls upon every Kang Variant from across the timelines to address the issue at hand. The scene ends with a jaw-dropping moment as hundreds of Kangs gather together in a massive stadium, perhaps to plot their next move against the Avengers of Earth-616. With a single Kang already wielding so much power, it’s hard to fathom what an army of Kangs could accomplish.
Who is Immortus in Quantumania?
In the end-credits scenes, we get a glimpse of Immortus, an alternate version of Kang who takes a different path in life. After repeated failures in his conquest plans, Kang decides to revisit Ancient Egypt when his younger self has already left.
This time, Kang reigns as a just and fair ruler, finally finding the sense of purpose he has always been lacking. He uses his exceptional intelligence to slow down his aging process and harness his powers to defeat his Conqueror Variant.
Just before he can succumb to Death, Kang escapes to Limbo, a dimension beyond time, where he becomes Immortus.
As an eternal being, like time itself, Immortus becomes a guardian of timelines and has the ability to alter the course of history. Although more potent than He Who Remains in the MCU, Immortus shares many similarities with him, as both characters represent neutral versions of Kang who strive to protect time and prevent their evil Variants from wreaking havoc.
Who is the fourth Variant of Kang in the end-credit scenes?
In the end-credits scenes, we get a glimpse of a cutting-edge Kang Variant that could be Scarlet Centurion or Iron Lad. However, the design of Scarlet Centurion in the MCU differs from its potential comic book counterparts, so we’re not sure about this yet.
Scarlet Centurion is a version of Kang who dons battle armor to combat his enemies, using technology to defeat the heroes who went against him in Ancient Egypt. Since the classic Scarlet Centurion uniform may not translate well to live-action, Marvel Studios has an excellent opportunity to revamp it.
On the other hand, Iron Lad is a unique heroic variant of Kang who glimpses at his future Conqueror self and decides to join forces with the Avengers to thwart evil Kangs. In the comic books, Iron Lad’s armor is inspired by Iron Man.
However, since our genius, playboy, billionaire, philanthropist is no longer here, and his character arc is more or less complete, it wouldn’t be surprising if Marvel Studios opts for a total redesign of the character.
Although it may seem odd that one of the primary Kang Variants could be a hero, we must note that we still do not know the objectives and intentions of this Kang council. Therefore, it is plausible that the heroic Kang merely has some misplaced trust in the other Variants.
How Ant-Man 3’s End-Credits Scene Sets Up Loki Season 2
The second end-credits scene in Loki takes us back to the early 19th century, where a man named Victor Timely presents a scientific lecture on manipulating time.
As the camera pans to the audience, we see Loki and Mobius discussing how Victor is the villain they’ve been searching for. While Mobius is skeptical, Loki insists that Victor is a threat to the Multiverse.
In the Marvel Comics, Victor Timely is actually a Variant of Kang who travels back in time and poses as a brilliant scientist and engineer. He founds the city of Timely, Wisconsin and transforms it into a hub of fringe science and development.
This particular Kang Variant doesn’t age and pretends to die and pass on the mantle to his son to remain hidden from the world. Victor uses Timely as a front to conceal Chronopolis, a city that allows Kang the Conqueror to access any point in the timeline and continue his conquering exploits.
So, the man on stage could very well be the same Kang that Scott Lang believed he had defeated in the Quantum Realm. We’ll have to wait for Season 2 of Loki on Disney+ to learn why Loki is so afraid of Victor and to confirm his true identity.
