Michael Douglas Says ‘Ant-Man 3’ Will Start Filming in July in London

Michael Douglas, who plays Hank Pym in the Ant-Man franchise, has revealed that filming for the third installment is set to begin around July on location in London.

While talking to Deadline, Douglas mentioned the Ant-Man films when asked about the most fun he ever had on set.

“You’re just such a small part, but you have all the incredible special effects going on and green screens. And you spend half the time putting dots on your face. It was a whole different type of filmmaking. I’ve never done any special effects movies before, or any sort of green screen. Paul Rudd was wonderful, Evangeline [Lilly] was great, and all of the other co-stars. That was a lot of fun. We’re starting at the third one now. We’re going to London to do an Ant-Man 3 in July.’

In a recent tweet, Director Peyton Reed revealed the first set photo from the upcoming film, featuring ILM’s StageCraft technology. The photo shows a snow-clad landscape with a reflective orb, The Volume, located at Pinewood Studios in the U.K.

StageCraft allows the filmmakers to project a computer-generated background to capture in camera and gives the actors the feeling of working on an actual set. The Volume is a curved 20-foot high 270-degree LED video wall made up of 1,326 individual LED screens topped with an LED ceiling.

The scenes will primarily be filmed on practical sets, like Hank’s lab, although the story might include travels to the Quantum Realm as hinted by the title, Quantumania. The Volume will possibly be used mostly for locations such as the different phases in the Quantum Realm.

According to The Walt Disney Company’s 2020 Investor Day presentation, Kathryn Newton will be replacing Emma Fuhrmann for the role of Cassie Lang. It was also announced that Jonathan Majors will portray Kang the Conqueror, the main antagonist/villain.

This opens a possible window for the upcoming film to explore time travel via the Quantum Realm, similar to Avengers: Endgame, as Kang the Conqueror’s abilities include time travelling.
