Indiana Jones 5: Antonio Banderas Reveals that his Character is an Ally

Indiana Jones 5 is just a few months away from its global premiere, and we still only know a little bit about the grand plot of Harrison Ford’s final adventure. But now we have some new information about a particular actor’s character in the film! Antonio Banderas opens up about his role and experience on the set of the upcoming movie.

In an interview with Inside Total Film (via Collider), the Zorro actor spoke about his “beautiful” experience working with his hero Harrison Ford. Banderas explained his character is “not a bad guy” and will help Indy “at some point in the movie,” but his role itself is “not very big.” You can read his full quote below:

It was beautiful just to be close to [Harrison Ford]. Some interviewers today, they say to me, ‘Oh my God, I was 7 when Shrek 2 came out, and so now I’m 27 and interviewing you, and I’ve been watching your movies since that time.’

But the same thing happened to me with Harrison. I remember the first time I saw Indiana Jones and flipped out. So just being there, it was beautiful. My character is very little. He’s not a bad guy, he’s a friend of Indiana, helping at some point in the movie. But it’s not very big. – Antonia Banderas

Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones

Banderas’ comment seals him as an ally to Indiana Jones but does little to explain where and how we’ll see him in the film. For now, apart from the trailer and the official synopsis, we know nearly nothing about the upcoming movie.

Harrison Ford confirmed this would be his last Indiana Jones film, and the whip and hat will be passed on to a new adventurer, not as a replacement but as someone who will carry the legacy forward.

The 2005 film portrayed Shia Lebouf’s Williams as the successor, but according to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, that mantle will shift to Indy’s goddaughter Helena, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Franchise star John Rhys-Davies will join Ford in the 2023 film along with newcomers Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, Toby Jones, Thomas Kretschmann, and Olivier Richters.

His goddaughter, Helena, accompanies him on his journey. Meanwhile, Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the moon-landing program, wishes to make the world a better place as he sees fit.
