Created by Jason Segel, Brett Goldstein, and Bill Lawrence, Shrinking has become one of the most popular shows on Apple TV+’s current list. The story follows Jimmy Laird, a grieving therapist, who uses unconventional methods at his workplace while sorting out his own issues.
The show is currently streaming on the platform, with eight out of ten episodes finished in the first season. And we already have some good news regarding a second season! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV+ has confirmed Shrinking’s renewal for season 2. Most of the cast and creative crew are set to return.
In fact, there’s more! Ted Lasso’s creators, who joined Segel on this series, have even revealed they have a three-season plan locked and loaded for the show. So, if or when, Apple greenlights season 3, we can have a speedy update on that.
The comedy-drama enjoys a fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and has been commended highly for its comedic timing and intricate character work. Of course, no show is without its complaints, and Shrinking has faced some criticism for its unhealthy depiction of therapy and its flagrant disregard for ethics.
And it’s true; Jimmy is a horrid therapist indeed! Asking one of his patients to live with him and threatening another with abandonment, all in the name of treating them, is highly unethical. But such is the world of fiction, and for those who confuse the lines between what’s real and not, it can be problematic.
Though season 2 has been confirmed, and the writers are already hard at work for the upcoming season; I don’t have a confirmed release date for you yet. But stay tuned for more updates and let us know your views in the comments below.
