Snyder has explained that the film combines zombie horror and action rip-off to deliver something wholly unique and fascinating.

Recently, Snyder shared a poster for Army of the Dead through Twitter that conveys all the movie’s information. The poster shows the Zombies’ hands splayed out from behind a casino vault with blood dripping down the metal. A sole fluorescent light gives the room a grim, eerie look.

A suitcase of money sits in front of the vault with playing cards, chips, dice, and $100 bills floating in the air. The movie’s catchphrase reads: “Survivors take all.”

Army of the Dead features an ensemble crew comprising Dave Bautista (who left The Suicide Squad for this project), Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Garret Dillahunt, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro, and Matthias Schweighöfer. However, dishonored comedian Chris D’Elia was replaced by Tig Notaro through a series of reshoots and digital compositions when he was charged with sexual misconduct.

Reportedly, Netflix has big plans for this one. An anime spinoff series labeled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and a prequel movie featuring and directed by Schweighöfer are already in progress. And given Snyder’s loyal online fanbase, their confidence in the project is presumably well-placed.

Admirers of Snyder’s work will be fascinated to discover that Snyder got his wings orchestrating horror with the 2004 remake of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. Snyder appears to see the film as a passion project, fetching what he’s learned from the DCEU to a genre very dear to him. He is serving as both director and cinematographer for the movie in a highly unprecedented decision.

The film is scheduled for a May 21 release on Netflix, while the teaser comes out on February 25.
