The source shared details to Korean news outlet E-Daily concerning the sequel’s production, which was confirmed back in 2020.

The second season of ‘Arthdal Chronicles’ is being prepared with an aim to film this year. The cast, broadcast timing, and platform have not been confirmed yet.

The cast for the fantasy thriller is not yet announced, but the main cast is expected to come back to reprise their roles after the cliffhanger finale. Song Joong-ki as twins Eun-seom and Saya, Kim Ji-won as Tan-ya, Jang Dong-gun as Ta-gon and Kim Ok-bin as Tae Al-ha have a long way to go before they find peace.

Arthdal Chronicles was released in three parts with six episodes each, taking a unique route than quintessential K-dramas. The show hardly received any favorable reviews.

However, the third part did receive positive responses. The introduction of new characters and a faster pace of the drama made it better. The positive response and the setup in the third part made people sure about Netflix or tvN confirming it for a sequel.

Arthdal Chronicles season 2 will undergo some changes. Reportedly, the first season director Kim Won-suk will not be directing the sequel. Kim Kwang-sik, director of The Great Battle, will helm the project. Whereas the writers, Kim Young-hyun and Park Sang-yeon will remain in charge of the screenplay.

Meanwhile, the first season was produced at a budget of over 50 billion KRW (approximately 41.9 million USD). According to an industry insider, via Soompi, the production cost will reportedly be the same for season 2 too.
