Marvel Chooses Bad Bunny as the Newest Spider-Man Villain El Muerto

Musician and wrestler Bad Bunny is all geared up to be El Muerto, Spider-Man’s wrestler supervillain.

At Sony’s CinemaCon a couple of hours ago, it unveiled a new Spider-Man spin-off movie focusing on El Muerto. Interestingly, they revealed the Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny to be playing the big baddie.

Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, or Bad Bunny, is a professional wrestler, singer, rapper, actor, and even a music producer. The spin-off movie is titled El Muerto, named after the comic character.

Sony even revealed the premiere date of the movie. El Muerto is set to hit theaters on January 12, 2024.

Bad Bunny has become the first live-action Latino lead in the MCU with the venture. Although Marvel wouldn’t be his first acting gig, it might be his most recognized work. Previously, Bad Bunny has appeared in Narcos: Mexico, F9, and more.

As for El Muerto, the comic supervillain definitely went under the radar for many. Called Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez, El Muerto is forced to take on superpowers after his father sacrifices himself for him.

The superpowers come from a mysterious mask that is passed down through generations. To earn the mask, descendants have to fight off El Dorado.

Estrada Sanchez was one of the defendants, but he failed to win the fight. His father, Marcus Estrada, ends up replacing him and sacrifices himself. Estrada Sanchez gets ten years to train more and defeat El Dorado and earn the title of El Muerto.

Bad Bunny bagging the role of the wrestler supervillain role took people by surprise and created waves across the internet.

Meanwhile, CinemaCon also revealed many exciting sequels. The sequels for Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Ghostbusters: Afterlife were officially announced.
