Avatar 3: A Breakout Character From Part 2 Will Return

Avatar: The Way of Water is making its way on Disney+ on March 28, 2023, after securing its place at #3 on the all-time box office top 10.

The James Cameron franchise fans are already asking questions about the third instalment, which will feature a Fire tribe of the Na’vi. Producer Jon Landau has confirmed that one of Avatar 2’s breakout characters will return in the 2024 film.

During an interview with The Wrap, the Avatar producer reveals that Payakan will return in Avatar 3. Landau described why seeing the Tulkun as “a character” was essential and stated we’d see him in the next Avatar film. You can read his full quote below:

I always viewed Payakan a little bit like Lassie. And I would say this is a story of a boy and his dog, and they’re both outcasts, and they need each other. And I thought that Payakan was going to be a character as you describe them. People wouldn’t see that at first.

And we had to keep saying Payakan is a character. And when we would ask people about characters, Payakan was always on that list and included them, which was unusual. Payakan will be back.

The exiled Tulkun was banished from his tribe after they believed he was a cannibal who killed and devoured his group. But even after Lo’ak revealed the truth about how the RDA killed his groupmates, no one believed in the Tulkun.

But despite the tribe standing against him, the outcast Tulkun was there to save the day when push came to shove, and the turn of the war in Avatar 2 wouldn’t have been possible without him.

But the violence of the otherwise peaceful species exhibited by Payakan means he still needs to redeem himself. Maybe that’s why we’ll see him return in Avatar 3! Landau previously confirmed Scoresby will also return in the next film, which means a revenge scene might crop up in the 2024 movie.

I am also sure of Payakan return because of his connection to Lo’ak. The two outcasts’ connection on the mutual ground was one of the most emotionally touching relationships in Avatar 2. Plus, Payakan is a fan favorite after his actions in Avatar: The Way of Water, so it’s no shock to hear he’ll be back.

Avatar 3 is slated to premiere in theaters worldwide on December 20, 2024. Stay updated with Cine Dope!
