Jake Sully Will Be Replaced as the Narrator in Cameron’s Avatar 3

Avatar: The Way of Water is steadily climbing the box-office charts, close to toppling 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home on the Global Top 10. Still going strong, the movie is closer to the $ 2 billion mark and will probably cross it in 24 hours. The franchise director shot Avatar 2 & 3 back-to-back, and the 2024 threequel is already in post-production.

Talking with radio DJ Edith Bowman on her podcast SoundTracking, Cameron has disclosed a major change in the upcoming Avatar 3. Cameron confirmed that the movie was in post-production and gave away that Lo’ak will replace Jake as the narrator in the threequel. You can view the short clip from Bowman’s Instagram below:

The franchise director revealed Loa’k will serve as the narrator of Avatar 3 since the audience will see the film “from his eyes.” Cameron also stated that Avatar 4 and 5, already in development, will have two different narrators apart from Jake and Lo’ak.

After the events of Avatar 2, Neytiri, Kiri, and even Tukitrey and Spider are the only ones left to narrate the 2026 and 2028 films.

Lo’ak’s arc in the second Avatar film was a delight to watch, where he went from the trouble-making son to the disruptor the people of Pandora needed against the Sky People. His relationship with Jake, shaky at first, took a step toward redemption at the film’s end when his father finally “saw” him.

Avatar 3 will possibly focus on his evolving relationship with his father and his budding romance with Tsireya, and how his life changed after Neteyam’s death. Lo’ak replacing Jake as the narrator is a passing of the torch, showing the shift from the previous two film’s focus to a new generation of heroes.

So far, Cameron has revealed limited information other than the change in narrators of Avatar 2’s subsequent films. We know Avatar 3 will explore a new tribe of people, the Ash People, a fire based Na’vi tribe, and that the threequel’s main antagonist remains the same as the previous films.

As of today, the release date for Avatar 3 is December 20, 2024, and we can’t wait to see the next instalment in the famous franchise.
