Based on Mattel’s iconic fashion doll line, the live-action Barbie is being directed by Lady Bird’s Greta Gerwig from a script she co-wrote with Marriage Story’s Noah Baumbach.
Ryan Gosling plays Ken, Barbie’s male counterpart, alongside Margot Robbie in the titular role.
In addition to Robbie and Gosling, the film also stars America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, and Hari Nef.
Barbie has been filming in Los Angeles and Leavesden since spring. First-look images from WB show Robbie’s Barbie driving a pink convertible and Gosling’s Ken with bleach-blonde hair and a denim vest.
In the recent days, a barrage of set photos and videos have leaked online, giving fans a good look at Barbie and Ken’s neon-colored skating outfits.
Greenblatt and Nef have just confirmed that they are done filming the movie. Taking to Twitter, Greenblatt expressed respect and endearment for her colleagues and excitement for everyone to see the film.
Nef shared a photo of herself alongside Robbie, Ferrera, Shipp, Kayne, and Rooney on Instagram. She confirmed that filming for Barbie had been wrapped in her post.

As of right now, it’s unclear whether Greenblatt and Nef have finished filming, or if the Barbie movie has finished production entirely. It does appear that it’s nearing completion and an official announcement about a production wrap could be on the way.
By combining nostalgia and contemporary upgrades, Barbie has taken Twitter by storm, sparking conversations and curiosity among both new and old fans. The outfit drops have been quite exciting, but the plot of the movie remains largely secret, so there is still much to learn.
There is still a whole year before the Barbie live-action movie’s release date, so it’s unlikely that the promotional campaign will begin before early 2023.
