Ben Affleck’s Commentary on His Armageddon Film Will Crack You Up

It says something about a man who can laugh at his own mistakes while simultaneously learning from them. Ben Affleck’s Armageddon might not have done the latter, but he surely knows how to get a joke running on his own projects. In a recently resurfaced clip, he gives his hilarious take on his 1998 film Armageddon.

Posted by All the Right Movies on Twitter, the clip features a scene from the film with Ben Affleck making a joke at the expanse of the characters. The Batman actor states it’d have been easier to teach drill workers how to be astronauts than the other way around. Oh, I have happy tears in my eyes; I cracked up so hard at that!

The actor also explained that director Michael Bay told him to “shut the f*** up” when he pointed out the glaring plotholes of the sci-fi disaster. I’m also tagging some of the hilarious reactions viewers had on Twitter for the benefit of you sharing a laugh:

Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck in Armageddon

The movie was a box office success and has become a cult classic for sci-fi fans, but it did not do well among the critics. Despite its plotholes and scientifically faulty premise, the film was a hit and earned more than thrice its budget. Director Michael Bay admits he should have taken more time for the film’s third act but maintains his non-apologetic stance.

The film is often compared to Deep Impact – a 1998 film with a similar plot, but much more well-researched, and yet a smaller hit at the box office than Armageddon. However, the talented stars of the film, including Affleck, Bruce Willis, Steve Buscemi, Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler, and more, made up for the crappy premise.
