Benedict Cumberbatch Hides Face in Interview at ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Set

Benedict Cumberbatch aka Doctor Strange couldn’t show his face in a new interview he gave on the set of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While Doctor Strange has only been in a few MCU films, unlike other characters in the franchise, he’s still a beloved character. This makes it intriguing why he wouldn’t want to reveal his face on camera while shooting Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Firstly, it’s possible that Doctor Strange could be getting a brand-new costume, which is somewhat expected, given that Marvel Studios tends to remodel them with every movie. Secondly, he probably had prosthetics on due to filming a fight scene, and he didn’t want to disclose anything that could spoil the movie.

The movie has been directed by Sam Raimi and has been in production for several months now, as verified by some of its leads, including Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo). The movie will portray the return of its titular character played by Cumberbatch. This will be his first appearance in the franchise since Avengers: Endgame.

In a clip shared by a fan account on Twitter by the name @SmilingBenedict, Cumberbatch gets on a video interview, but instead of showing up on the screen, the camera is faced towards a wall. The actor clarifies that he can’t reveal his face because he’s in the middle of shooting Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is still under development.

After dropping several hints in WandaVision, Marvel will thoroughly explore the multiverse in the forthcoming sequel. However, the concept is not new to the MCU, as mentioned before in movies like Doctor Strange and Ant-Man. Recently, Spider-Man: Far From Home utilized it as a red herring as part of Mysterio’s intricate plan to con Peter Parker into giving up Iron Man’s EDITH.

Nevertheless, Marvel Studios is set to tackle the idea effectively. Though the multiverse may be touched upon in a few other undertakings, everything is anticipated to culminate in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

There is no hiding that the actor’s honesty in the video and the blank wall displayed throughout the videos makes for some laughs. Possibilities are the interview that happened during some downtime on set, and Cumberbatch couldn’t wipe out his makeup and, most likely, change his costume. Whatever the case may be, this only heightens the anticipation for the movie.
