Will Billions Season 5 Finale Witness the Downfall of Bobby Axelrod?

Has Bobby Axelrod finally been bested after five seasons? The preview of Billions Season 5 finale sets it up to be so.

It takes a party of Chuck Rhoades, Mike Prince, Taylor Mason, and Kate Sacker to lure Bobby into a trap. In Episode 11, each of them craftily executes a plan that directly tells Bobby not to get involved in a cannabis-funded deal.

What does Bobby do? The very opposite, just like his adversaries hoped and predicted. This is bound to push Bobby into a corner, as the cannabis company Fine Young Cannabis has its hands dirty in illegal black-market sales.

When his team asks him how they should prepare for his impending arrest, Bobby replies with something we have never heard him say — “I have no f**king idea.”

The Season 5 finale teases some interesting events ahead:

While the trailer shows a confident Chuck ready to escort Bobby into prison, raiding his company building, it also hints that things will not go down quietly. In fact, when the media hound Bobby, he spontaneously goes on air to provoke Chuck to arrest him.

This kind of conviction can only mean that Bobby has some kind of ace up his sleeve. Since the last episode, he has moved from having no idea how to deal with the situation to the trailer voiced, “We are a long way from walking into a cell.”

Fans have predicted that Bobby will find a way to stay out of jail. After all, the deal with Fine Young Cannabis would also land Chuck Sr and Mike into hot water. Taylor is also not one to be trusted, as he has expressed, he would back out once he thinks his work is done.

Bobby and Chuck

At the very least, Bobby will lose his beloved charter bank. But if he goes does, he won’t go down alone.

Plus, I can’t help but pick at the one snippet in the trailer where Bobby laughs into Chuck’s face triumphantly.

Whatever both sides do, it will have gigantic (and, needless to say, legal) consequences. Are we about to witness the downfall of one Bobby Axelrod? Or, will he once again prove that there is nothing he can’t overcome? The finale will tell.

This is not the full and final end — Billions is renewed for Season 6, scheduled for 2022.
