Black Adam: Dwayne Johnson’s DCEU Movie Starts Filming Officially

It’s official. Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam movie has started filming following its delay in release. As one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Johnson will make his DCEU debut as the nemesis of Shazam. The movie is slated for release in July 2022.

In an Instagram post by the former pro-wrestler, Johnson revealed that the long-awaited project has started filming. He uploaded it with a picture of the set’s clapperboard and the caption:

“History in the making, extremely excited and what a humbling moment to share with you. Officially kicking off DAY 1 of filming our BLACK ADAM…”

The actor has been busy for a while now promoting the upcoming movie on his social media. Last month, he announced that Black Adam’s release had been pushed back to 29 July 2022 from its earlier date in December 2021 .

But now it seems production is back on track and will make it to its summer premiere next year.

Johnson is no stranger to big-scale franchises, having been a part of Jumanji and the uberly famous Fast and Furious series. But his entry into the DCEU will be even more major for his publicity.

Even though the future of Black Adam remains uncertain, a clash with Shazam, his comic book nemesis seems inevitable, since the latter will be making his comeback in the sequel to his 2019 hit.

Considering that the DCEU is known for its sombre and dark themed movies, in recent years, it has started to diversify into more comedic territory with a light-heartedness like Shazam. This makes it uncertain as to what the tone for Black Adam will be like.

Johnson, who previously teased a Johnny Cash song in one of his promo posts, seemed to hint at the movie’s dark outlook. But given that The Rock is involved, there’s a fair chance it’ll include some laughs here and there.

Furthermore, the Black Adam cast will also bring to screen the DC Justice Society of America. It is a major development for fans of the comics as it will introduce many famous characters, including Dr Fate, who will be played by Pierce Brosnan.

Besides Brosnan, the movie will also star Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman. The movie also recently added Bodhi Sabongui and Tony award nominee James Cusati-Moyer in unnamed roles.

With an ensemble cast as such, the movie is sure to be a hit, and the wait cannot get any longer!
