Pierce Brosnan Discusses a Potential Dr. Fate Return in the DCU

Black Adam star Pierce Brosnan discusses the chances of a potential return of his character, Doctor Fate, in the DCU.

The latest DCU film starring Dwayne Johnson, eponymously titled Black Adam, finally hit theaters last week after being stuck in developmental hell for years. The film introduced one of the latest power players into the DC Universe.

Black Adam follows the tragic story of Teth-Adam and how he went on to become a godlike figure for his people from a Kahndaq slave. The film also marks the cinematic debut of the Justice Society of America, the Golden Age team in the DCU that precedes the Justice League in most canons.

The JSA team in the film included Hawkman, Atom Smasher, Cyclone and Doctor Fate. Though the first three heroes survived the events of Black Adam, Doctor Fate made the final sacrifice in the battle against Sabbac.

Despite the tragic fate of Doctor Fate, his story may not be over yet. In an interview with USA Today, Brosnan discusses his potential future in the DCU. On being questioned about his return to the DCU, he gave a positive response.

Read his entire statement below –

“So I think the door is open. I honestly have no idea where this will go. I just know I’m very proud of the work playing Dr. Fate and honored being part of the DC comic book world.”

In the film, we see Kent’s body and the Helmet of Nabu evaporate in front of the JSA and Black Adam. However, Doctor Fate has been established as one of the most powerful magic users in the DCU. In fact, he can even challenge Superman.

Doctor Fate’s helmet disappeared in the same way as Kent. So, it is possible that a piece of his brain remains in the helmet and is transferred to whoever becomes the next hero. Another possibility is that Kent used his power to make everyone think that he died, while in reality he simply teleported away.

Thus, with so many story options at hand, Black Adam may not be the last time we see Doctor Fate on screen. No matter which storyline the sequels decide to take up, it will be interesting to see Pierce Brosnan being a part of the DCU in some way or the other.

All of this, however, depends on whether Black Adam will get a sequel or not. Only time will tell whether we will see Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate once again in the DCU or not.
