Black Panther 2 Halts Filming, Won’t Affect Nov 2022 Release Date

In late August, Letitia Wright sustained injuries on set while filming for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Reports now state that the movie will halt production till 2022.

Wright’s injury was caused due to a stunt rig on-location while shooting in Boston. Wright had to fly back to London in order to treat the injury.

In the meantime, the studio filmed around Wright’s narratives in Atlanta to complete as much of the movie as they could while she was recovering.

Now that two months have passed, it seems that the majority of non-Wright scenes have been filmed. But given the severity of the actor’s injury, she has been in recovery since September and will need a few more months to heal fully.

Production will therefore take a hiatus from Thanksgiving onwards. It is expected to last till the end of the year, with filming to pick up once again in 2022.

Black Panther 2’s original release date of July 2022 had already been pushed back to November 11, 2022. Since the decision had come after Wright’s injury, sources say that this date will remain unchanged for now.

Marvel had chosen not to replace Chadwick Boseman after his demise. There have been speculations about who would be taking the lead in the sequel, and now there is sufficient evidence to say that Wright’s Shuri will definitely have a larger role.

A log line released a few months ago also teased the oncoming clash between Wakanda and Atlantis, another technologically advanced civilization. In the comics, the two are known to butt heads with each other from time to time, especially over the topic of Vibranium.

This conflict will also introduce us to Namor the Submariner, rumored to be played by Tenoch Huerta. We shall know more once production resumes. Till then, we wish Wright a speedy recovery!
