Wakanda To Clash With Atlantis in Black Panther 2

The official production sheet of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever anticipates the introduction of yet another “hidden” but technologically advanced civilisation – Atlantis. It also announces the arrival of Namor as the sequel’s villain.

The details were released by Production Weekly, with a snippet describing the context of Black Panther 2.

The logline not only confirms the conflict between Wakanda and Atlantis, drawing up their respective histories but also sets up the stage for Namor’s antagonism towards Wakanda.

Both Wakanda and Atlantis are hidden civilizations with advanced technology and increased militaristic abilities that decided to separate themselves from the rest of the world for their own safety, and in a way, out of fear.

Wakanda feared that their technology would be abused. Atlantis feared that surface dwellers would come and desecrate the mythical city just as they did so many years ago.

And yet their fears escalate even further when these two once-hidden nations clash with each other. Wakanda and Atlantis have a shockingly intertwined history. Wakanda is the only county in the world with access to vibranium.

However, rumors of its power spread throughout the world, and Namor’s human father was sent searching for this rare material in Antarctica…

Conventionally, Atlantis is a sunken city associated with the Pacific, but there was a time in the 1960-70s where the theory that Atlantis was actually located in Antarctica was popularised.

It also leads to Namor’s comic book backstory, wherein his father, Leonard McKenzie was commanded with the task of finding vibranium, leading him to captain a ship in the Antarctic.

McKenzie is ultimately captured by the city of Atlantis, but falls in love with Princess Fen. The rest is all history for Namor.

The war between Wakanda and Altantis is not new contraption – in fact, their respective kings have led their nations to fight against each other in different reiterations, famously as in Avengers v/s X-men.

In the comic book, T’Challa with the Avengers saw the impending arrival of the Phoenix Force as a threat, while Namor on the side of the X-men viewed it as a hope for the mutants.

This is not the first time their interests or opinions haven’t aligned. Theories have it that for Black Panther 2, their newest conflict will be on the subject of vibranium.

With the log line as evidence, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would serve as the perfect place to finally introduce the long-standing clash of two of MCU’s most highly advanced civilisations.

It is rumored that Mexican actor Tenoch Heurta (known in Hollywood for his role in Narcos: Mexico) will be playing Namor.

Marvel Studios has neither confirmed nor denied both, the newly released production log line and or the inclusion of Heurta in the cast.

So far, we know that Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther will not be recast, and some of the team coming back will include Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Winston Duke and Angella Bassett

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled for July 8, 2022.
