Scarlett Johansson Talks About Filming Marvel’s Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson has revealed that filming Black Widow was quite challenging for the Golden Globe-nominated actress. Having starred in many Marvel projects over the past two decades, she is finally set to star in her standalone film, Black Widow, releasing on July 9.

In a recent interview with Total Film via Twitter, Johansson noted working on the upcoming project was “extremely stressful” because the storytelling of her solo film precedes the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Since Natasha dies in the latter, retracing steps into her past, knowing full well her character’s fate must’ve been hard for the actress.

Taking Natasha’s death into consideration, the filmmakers had to get very creative with the script and thus chose to set the events of Black Widow between the timeline of Captain America: Civil War and Infinity War.

“It gave us the opportunity to really show her when she’s kind of off her game, you know? Because of that, anything is possible,”

“You’re trying to map out all of this… which is actually extremely stressful because there’s no guidelines.”

“She has a really beautiful career ahead of her… she’s a very special person,”

Johansson stated about the Midsommar actress, teasing her bright future in Hollywood.

When asked about potentially becoming the MCU’s new Black Widow, Pugh smartly deflected to answer and instead highlighted that the film’s aim was not to underline what (or who) comes next. Read her statement below:

“What Yelena does is to kind of point out Natasha’s pain. She’s part of Natasha’s history. And I think that’s why we get this opportunity to look into Natasha’s history, because Yelena comes knocking, and says. ‘Yo, let’s deal with this pain.”
