‘Bridgerton’ Spinoff on Young Queen Charlotte Announced by Netflix

Netflix has revealed that a Bridgerton prequel series about a young Queen Charlotte is in the works. Golda Rosheuvel played the character in Season 1 of the hit series.

In fact, Queen Charlotte was actually a historical figure from the 1700s who was married to King George III.

Now following the massive success of  Bridgerton, which has already secured three additional seasons, Netflix also announced via Twitter this week that a spinoff prequel is in development.

The limited series will follow Queen Charlotte in her days of youth, along with appearances from young Violet Bridgerton and young Lady Danbury. Check out the tweet here:

Although there’s no official word yet as to who will portray the young Queen Charlotte, the news is a welcome surprise for Bridgerton fans. Considering the monarch’s fascinating life, it’ll be interesting to see which story the spinoff is based on.

Established as the chief sovereign of the Netflix series, Queen Charlotte is introduced in the first episode when the Bridgerton and Featherington family girls make their debut before her.

While the Featheringtons fail to catch the queen’s eye, she is impressed by Daphne Bridgerton and highly praises her, which helps her be anointed as the season’s “incomparable.”

Thanks to Queen Charlotte’s grand declaration, Daphne and the Duke of Hastings (Rege-Jean Page) were able to experience their own love story. But the queen’s story, too, has a lot of potential to dig into.

Charlotte is known to have married King George III at the mere age of seventeen, who in the series succumbs to a form of dementia, rendering him unstable.

Thus, the spinoff could be assumed to focus on Charlotte in a different romance entirely before her nuptials, but that’s yet to be confirmed.

Either way, plot-wise, there are many possibilities for the upcoming spinoff. Furthermore, the backstories of Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton are also full of potential.

Since Bridgerton is primarily focused on romance, the chances of the prequel following romantic endeavors of the three Regency ladies are high.

Moreover, it’d be an added bonus to see them come into their own and learn their individual lessons in self-love, as well.
