Kang Poses A Much Bigger Threat To The MCU Than Thanos, Here’s Why

Stephen Broussard, the producer of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, explains why Kang the Conqueror is an even bigger threat than Thanos in the MCU.

Thanos was the most popular antagonist in the MCU and a huge threat to mankind. His rise led us to the Infinity Saga, where the Avengers assembled together to defeat him. In the process, we lost few of our heroes as well.

Kang the Conqueror is being projected as the next big threat in the universe, he might prove to be even more dangerous than Thanos because of his advanced understanding of the multiverse and the concept of time.

While speaking to Screenrant producer Stephen Broussard explained why Kang is a more dangerous threat to the universe than Thanos. The biggest reason he stated is that while there was only one Thanos (or so we think as of now?), there is an infinite number of Kang variants across timelines. Check out this interesting excerpt from his Screenrant interview here –

SR: Kang is the next big Avengers-level threat after Thanos, and Thanos wiped out half the universe. What makes Kang even more dangerous?

Broussard: I think what makes Kang so dangerous is that we’re almost caught in a war of Gods. They clearly exist in this heightened state. They’ve cracked the code of the multiverse, as He Who Remains kind of explains to us, and they form this uneasy alliance. [It] doesn’t always go well, which is why they banish [Kang the Conqueror] here.

And humanity, as they say, is starting to scratch at the door of the multiverse. We’ve been protected. We’ve been sort of isolated in what I call our terrarium, which is the analogy we used in Loki season 1. That door gets kicked down, which is what you see in the events of No Way Home and the events of Multiverse of Madness. And there’s a chaos that breeds into that; the chaos of possibility and the chaos of different things colliding together is really scary to me.

There was a singular-ness of Thanos that was frightening. But Kangs don’t even agree amongst themselves, which is what’s exciting to think about. The unpredictable nature of that feels like it’s a threat that is every bit as scary as Thanos, but not feeling like a retread to us.

Stephen Broussard

Thanos caused a lot of damage to the universe, but as explained by Broussard, he was a single individual and the damage he caused was limited to one timeline/universe. However, Kang is a much bigger threat as his effects could span across timelines.

Kang

Kang’s introduction in Quantumania will truly mark the beginning of a new era for the MCU. As a truly charismatic villain has been missing from the universe after Thanos. Kang’s introduction will bring a very dangerous variant into the MCU, especially because he seems to understand time and multiverses much better than anyone else.

Moreover, Kang is not an individual, so our heroes have to get ready to fight multiple variants of Kang, who apparently have quite a difficult relationship with each other according to Broussard. Perhaps, this is the loophole that the Avengers could try to exploit to bring down Kang – the troubled relationship between his variants.

He also seems quite out of the Avengers’ league as things stand now, so the Avengers have to educate themselves more about the working of time and multiverses. Moreover, Kang has already mentioned in the Quantumania teasers that he has killed Avengers before in one timeline or the other.

Thanos had clear goals and killed to gain power for himself. Kang’s motives are way more sinister, and it looks like his variants themselves are at war with each other for control. The Avengers, on the other hand, are grossly underprepared to face a threat as massive as Kang, as they are still trying to make sense of the multiverse.

Let’s hope by the time Avengers: The Kang Dynasty arrives; our heroes will be better prepared!
