Ms. Marvel Episode 4 Ending Explained: Can Kamala time travel using the bangle?

Episode 4 of Ms Marvel was quite an exciting one, as we saw Kamala Khan travel to Karachi (a city in Pakistan) with her mother to meet Sana. The ending set up Kamala in quite a complicated position, setting up a potential meeting with Aisha as well.

But there’s a twist in the tale, as Kamala’s visit to Karachi does not remain just a visit to another country, but one across time!

Kamala Khan can most likely time travel using her bangle, which the Clandestines are after as well. In Episode 4, she accidentally ends up back in time in Karachi and finds herself in the midst of the historic partition of India.

Episode 4 begins with Kamala traveling to Karachi to meet her grandmother, Sana, to find out more about her great-grandmother, Aisha, who was also a Clandestine. In Karachi, she meets Waleed, played by popular Indian actor Farhan Akhtar, who tells her more about the Clandestines and also explains how the two worlds are related.

But when the Clandestines realize that Kamala is in Karachi, they hunt her down to get hold of the bangle, using which they hope to travel back to their own home. In the climax of the episode, Kamala gets into a fierce fight with the Clandestine and ends up getting stabbed in her bangle.

This makes her travel back in time, and she reaches a time that looks like India during the Partition of 1947. For those of you confused about this, Pakistan was a part of India before 1947.

In 1947, the country suffered one of the biggest partitions in history, leading to the formation of two separate dominions, India and Pakistan. Karachi, where Kamala traveled to meet her grandmother, is part of present-day Pakistan.

But it seems like Kamala travelled back to the past at a time when Karachi was in the midst of the India-Pakistan partition. Thus, the bangle surely has the power of time-traveling. However, how exactly it works is not clear, since Kamala landed up back in time solely by accident.

Bruno had earlier warned Kamala that according to Eric Selvig’s research, something really bad can happen if the bangle is tampered with. What if that ‘bad thing’ has happened? We’ll have to find out.

Time-travelling in the MCU is heavily based on quantum mechanics and Ms. Marvel seems to be heading in that direction. Though it is hinted that Kamala can time-travel, there’s something really interesting and unique about her powers.

Whenever Kamala uses her powers, she borrows or lends mass to different versions of herself through time. So, she is definitely time-traveling but there’s more to it than just simply moving to the past and present.

However, in the series, the makers have taken some liberties about depicting Kamala’s time-traveling capabilities. As we saw in Episode 4, she was directly transported to the past through her bangle. So, we might expect a different version of Ms. Marvel’s time-traveling capabilities here.

For now, Kamala is stuck in the 1940s and we’ve to wait for the next episode to see how she gets out of there!
