Captain America 2: Frank Grillo aka Rumlow’s Dangerous Stunt Story

Frank Grillo has shared an awe-inspiring behind-the-scenes story from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The actor, who played Brock Rumlow in the MCU film, recently revealed in an interview with Collider that Captain America 2 had a dangerous stunt that he almost did not perform. But Scarlett Johansson convinced him to do it!

Winder Soldier brought a change in the tone of the Marvel movies and elevated it from a black and white superhero movie. The movie dealt with corruption, betrayal and introduced the fans to Bucky Barnes’ grey alter-ego, The Winter Soldier. It was also the first movie of the franchise to be directed by the Russo brothers, which meant that superb stunt sequences were a given.

Grillo’s character, Rumlow, was a member of HYDRA moonlighting as a S.H.I.E.L.D agent. In the first ten minutes of the movie, Captain America, Natasha/Black Widow and a team from S.H.I.E.L.D are sent to rescue hostages from a boat in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Rumlow and Natasha parachute off a hovering airplane and land on the boat. Initially, the actor had refused to do it himself but Johansson’s confidence impelled him to do it-

“We were doing Cap 2, Winter Soldier, and we were out in Long Beach on an aircraft carrier. So however many stories above sea level the boat is […] it’s like 150 feet up, right? There was a crane on the deck which was another 150 feet up, so you’re probably 300 feet up from the water. And basically what we had to do was clip into the crane, and they dropped us so that it looked like we were flying onto the boat. And I wasn’t gonna do it. I said, ‘I’m not doing that! Let my guy do it, I’m not doing it.’ And Scarlett Johansson said, ‘Well I’m doing it!’ So she went and did it, and then I had to do it. (laughs) I think in the movie I fly in behind her. And she didn’t, but I had sh*t in my pants, because I was that afraid. And it was pitch black! It was nighttime.”

It seems like Scarlett Johansson is one formidable woman, not only when she’s playing Black Widow, but in real life too!
