The Matrix 4 Gets Teaser Trailer And ‘Resurrects’ Interactive Website

After 18 long years of wait, the Matrix is finally here and welcomes you back to choose from the red pill and blue pill.

The new teaser for The Matrix: Resurrections is out, but as you’ll watch the footage, you’ll find yourself asking, “Is time even real?”

I say this for two reasons. One, there’s a blink-and-miss shot of Keanu Reeves’ Neo as a really old man in a mirror reflection, and as fans suspected, a young Morpheus is seen in the teaser as well.

But that’s not all, the second reason is that the interactive fan website, WhatIsTheMatrix.com, is back online, and it asks you to choose a pill, the decision is up to you, so choose wisely. Both the pills lead to different clips from the teaser, and whichever clip you choose, it shows THE EXACT TIME you’re watching it.

(Seriously, go check it out, I’ve tried it six different times, and it’s always accurate. Maybe I get impressed too easily, but you have to admit… that’s something.)

According to EW, there are more than 180,000 variations of the clip, each one featuring narration from the movie’s cast. However, if you’re interested in the main teaser, it’s available on YouTube, but be warned, it doesn’t display the exact time you’re watching it (which is less thrilling).

The Wachowski sisters ‘revolutionized’ action movies when The Matrix came out in 1999. The Matrix: Resurrections is directed by Lana Wachowski.

The Matrix introduced a futuristic world in which sentient machines farm human beings for energy, and they do so by keeping them in a simulated reality known as the Matrix. This was followed by the sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.

Since the trilogy ended almost 18 years ago, fans are more than thrilled to get more Matrix-related content. But as is the case with reboots and returns of popular film franchises, some fans are also concerned about this one spoiling the magic of the original trilogy.

The Matrix Resurrections plot details are still scarce, but we know time/age will be a major factor, as hinted in the teaser. A black cat can be seen in one of the shots, which is the sign of a glitch in the Matrix.

The full trailer is just a day away and is set to drop on September 9. Last month, Warner Bros revealed the trailer and official title for Matrix 4 at CinemaCon.

The trailer for the film was exclusive for the panel attendees, but Deadline has described the events that take place in the trailer.

The full-length trailer featured Neil Patrick Harris’s character talking to Neo in a near-future San Francisco. ‘Neo is trapped in a humdrum world, much like his first self in the 1999 movie.’

The Matrix: Resurrections releases in theaters and on HBO Max from December 22.
