Cherry: First Exclusive Look Revealed

Joe and Anthony Russo are famed for films like the Captain America series and the Avengers series, in which, Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing film of all time. They direct most of their films together and are called Russo Brothers.

An upcoming project that the Russo brothers are working on is called Cherry, an epic crime drama starring Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo. The Russo Brothers unveil the exclusive first-ever look of the film in a never-seen-before clip.

Cherry is a crime drama film that is based on a novel by Nico Walker. The novel itself is much inspired by Nico’s own life, despite being entirely fictional.

The film feels episodic as it portrays Cherry’s (played by Tom Holland) life as he goes from being a young gauche college student to robbing banks out of desperation, all in a span of 15 years.

The clip released by the Russo brothers, though it isn’t a trailer, gives enough insight into what we can expect from the film. The clip shows Tom Holland’s character, Cherry, as he tries to find a purpose of living by getting enlisted in the US Military after breaking up with his girlfriend.

Just that clip is enough to show us just how different Cherry is from other roles that Tom Holland has previously performed. It also has Holland doing a narration, which will happen throughout the film, providing us with more insight into Cherry’s mind.

In an interview with Deadline, the Russo brothers reveal how deeply personal the film is for them. They know people who struggle with sobriety and family and friends who died of opioid addiction and are victims of war.

With Cherry, the Russo brothers are making a comeback to their roots. They mentioned how their mentor, Steven Soderbergh, often told them, “you make one (film) for me and you make one for them.”

The film has a dark, intense feel to it, and if the posters give out anything, we will get to see Tom Holland in five different looks at various stages of his life as a student, a lover, a soldier, a druggie, and lastly a thief.

In the Instagram post by Holland, when we see the posters strung together, we notice that as the posters change (indicating a different stage in his life in each), we see them getting darker until it’s as close to black as possible in the thief poster.

Cherry highlights issues like problems with sobriety, Opioid addiction, war and the trauma that came with it, and the power of true love, as we follow the life of Cherry (Tom Holland) on his journey in search of a purpose for living.

It shall be interesting to see how the film turns out, given all the big names that are working on this project together. The film is set to release in theatres on February 26, 2021. It will also be available for streaming on Apple TV+.
