‘Captain America 4’ Will Not See the Return of Chris Evans to MCU

Chris Evans will not be returning to play the titular role in Marvel’s upcoming movie Captain America 4. The film, which was announced recently, will be the fourth installment in the Captain America series and sequel to 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

However, Evans, who has played the role since the first movie came out in 2011, will not be making his return in the forthcoming addition. But according to Deadline, the actor could make a comeback to the MCU with a separate project.

Replacing him in the role of Captain America is Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, who ascended to the title in Marvel’s Phase Four series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Steve passed the shield on to Sam and chose to spend his life in retirement with Peggy Carter.

But, this spelled a predicament for Wilson, who began to question a Black man taking on the mantle and what it could mean for the future of America and his own.

Throughout the series, he is shown grappling with his decision to give up the shield while figuring out what he deems to be best for himself.

Ultimately, in Friday’s episode, Wilson picked the shield up and donned a brand new suit designed by the Wakandans and was proclaimed the next Captain America.

This came two days after Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd, and both events were celebrated as moments of Black justice.

Furthermore, Chris Evans himself has supported Falcon in taking over the role, and it seems apt for the franchise to do so, considering their recent efforts at better representation in their casting.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige too, previously dismissed rumors regarding Evans’ return, stating the former had dispelled them himself on social media.

Captain America 4 is currently in development, and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’s executive producer Malcolm Spellman has been hired as a writer alongside Dalan Musson. No other details about the movie have been revealed yet.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier concluded Season 1 this Friday. A second season is yet to be announced, but it does seem likely, considering that the finale left many loose ends.

Not only did it see Sharon finally being pardoned by the US government, but it also revealed her new evil persona as the Power Broker. As she is leaving her hearing, she is seen on a call with someone to whom she reveals her plans of selling national secrets to enemies of the state.

Furthermore, it could also explore John Walker’s narrative as the US Agent and the mysterious backstory of Contessa Valentina Alegra de Fontaine, who recruits him.

Now it remains to be seen when we get any new updates for Season 2. However, in honor of the new Cap, it’ll be renamed to Captain America and The White Wolf.
