SPOILERS AHEAD! This page contains spoilers from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness .

From the vast array of expectations we had from Doctor Strange’s end-credits scene, the character who actually turned up was the last one we had in mind! Mind you, folks certainly recognized Charlize Theron, but who exactly was this character clad in purple that she was playing? What was her connection to Strange?

Here’s everything you need to know:

Clea makes her MCU debut via a mid-credits scene in Doctor Strange 2. She hails from the dark dimension, is Dormammu’s niece and Strange’s potential love interest.

So the mid-credits scene begins with Strange walking down the pavement (once again) and a portal abruptly opening, through which Clea enters. If you look into the portal, you’ll see the familiar landscape of the Dark Dimension that was depicted in Doctor Strange (2016).

Clea’s History and Powers Explained

Clea

While she appears to be human, Clea was born in the Dark Dimension and is maternally related to the other-dimensional Faltine race of energy beings. Unlike her uncle Dormammu and the rest of the family, Clea has very clear, moral values.

This is why (in the comics) when she sees Strange battling Dormammu, she pairs with him to defeat her uncle. I believe that the MCU may use this reason as well for her friendship with Strange.

In terms of power, she has super strength, telekinesis, can control people’s minds and can create energy bolts. She is also skilled in magic and can also replicate Strange’s spells easily.

As of now, we don’t know how Clea can portal but since she is a being of immense powers in the comics, it’s no surprise she may have such a device in her possession.

What does Clea’s cameo mean for the MCU?

Other than this being a clear sign for Strange to move on from Christine, Clea’s appearance leads to two things:

  • Doctor Strange 3: This could either be a third standalone movie or a joint project with other MCU characters. The mid-credits scene depicted a Strange and Clea who were very familiar with each other, plus the third eye that didn’t seem to shock anyone anymore. So, a third movie could depict their relationship and Strange dealing with repercussions of using the Darkhold.
  • Secret Wars: Secret Wars is the next big Infinity War-End Game event. With more folks traversing the multiverse, leading to more Incursions, the threats are on a totally cosmic scale. The Incursion that Clea was talking about could be the linchpin that sets the Secret Wars into motion.
