The Complete List of Winners at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, one of the television’s biggest awards ceremonies just announced its winners! With Kenan Thompson hosting the event, we have 25 categories that range from Best Comedy to Best Directing and more.

I’m sure you’re keen on finding out all about the winners, so here we go!

At the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, Succession won for Best Drama Series, while Zendaya (Euphoria) and Lee Jung-Jae (Squid Game) won Best Actress and Best Actor respectively. HBO’s The White Lotus made a big sweep, winning the most awards (five in total) this year.

I’ve put into focus a few noteworthy wins of the night, followed by the full list of winners.

1. Best Drama Series: Succession

The nominations in this category were some of the finest TV shows we’ve seen in the year gone by: Better Call Saul, Squid Game, Yellowjackets, etc. But the one that got to take the trophy home is Succession.

The show has already won several awards over the years, being praised for its acting, musical score, and most of all, getting down and dirty with the different layers of its storyline. The show bagged four awards in total at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.

2. Best Actress in a Drama Series: Zendaya (Euphoria)

After Zendaya’s performance in Euphoria S2 Episode 5, there wasn’t a single person who didn’t think she was deserving of this award. Her mind-blowing performance beat contenders like Jodie Comer, Melanie Lynskey, and Laura Linney, among others.

While Euphoria trends on social media for its frenzied high school drama, it’s Zendaya’s delivery of Rue’s bittersweet story that pulls in the most acclaim, along with the show’s hypnotic, aesthetic cinematography.

3. Best Actor in a Drama Series: Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game)

The talented Lee Jung-jae took us into the underbelly of South Korea’s socio-economic problems, as depicted in Squid Game. He is also now the first person to win Best Actor for a non-English role at the Emmys.

4. Best Comedy Series: Ted Lasso

While some may contend that Ted Lasso is more slice-of-life than comedy, it shines through with its kind, clever humor. The show has won hearts all over, becoming one of Apple TV’s most-watched shows.

This year, it was nominated for several Emmys, and besides Best Comedy, Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein also took home trophies as well. MJ Delaney also won Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for the episode, “No Weddings and a Funeral.”

5. Best Actress in a Comedy Series: Jean Smart (Hacks)

Hacks is one of my favorite comedy series, so it is absolutely delightful to see Jean Smart winning Best Actress in this category. Her charisma and command over her character, Deborah Vance, are just awe-inspiring!

A special shout-out to the other nominees, whose performances were beyond commendable as well: Issa Rae, Elle Fanning, Kaley Cuoco, Quinta Brunson, and Rachel Brosnahan.

6. Best Limited or Anthology Series: The White Lotus

The White Lotus is an unusual narrative maneuver into the resort-chain industry, but it is this very idiosyncrasy that has won it an Emmy for Best Anthology Series. Raving reviews and popularity have also led it to be renewed for another season.

The category also featured Dopesick, The Dropout, Inventing Anna, and Pam & Tommy.

7. Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series: Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout)

One of the ’90s queens who’s never slowed her momentum ever since, Amanda Seyfried proved her acting prowess in The Dropout.

She played Theranos’s founder, Elizabeth Holmes, in a dramatized version of real events chronicling Holmes’ super successful venture, involvement in fraud, and consequent downfall.

Some notable mentions in the category include Margaret Qualley (Maid), Sarah Paulson (Impeachment: American Crime Story), and Toni Collette (The Staircase), among others.

8. Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series: Michael Keaton (Dopesick)

Michael Keaton headlines Dopesick as Dr. Samuel Finnix in the grim narrative of big pharma’s facilitation of America’s struggle with opioid addiction. It was no easy or simple story to tell, so along with Keaton, the remaining cast and crew deserve kudos as well!
