Solos: How Are The Episodes Connected And What Becomes of Stuart’s Memories

Prime Video’s Solos is a collection of sci-fi anthology stories that portrays what a person truly is alone. It’s a poignant narration of significant events from the lives of various people in isolation, with each episode generally only involving a single character.

The episodes in Solos seem to have some connections with each other. Take Tom and Peg, for example. It’s pretty interesting to see how all these seemingly independent stories converge at one point at Stuart—who suffered brain damage and lost his memories to a condition similar to Alzheimer’s.

There were also quite a few hints here and there throughout the episodes if you’ve watched them with a keen eye. I will discuss them in detail further ahead in the article. So hang tight and read ahead to know more.

1. What Is The Common Premise Of Stories In Solos?

The common theme in all the stories is that the characters are isolated in/with futuristic technology, living through crucial events in their lives. They all had their issues to deal with, whether mental health or losing a chance with a high school crush.

Another thing that Solos eerily portrays is the horrors of technology. It’s when things start to go wrong that the characters realize the gravity of the situation.

Each story has a unique plot, but there are quite a few similarities that we could observe.

  • Leah was in her basement laboratory, where she attempts to travel to the future. She is hoping to find a cure for her mother’s ailment.

  • Tom is diagnosed with a fatal disease and hasn’t got a lot of time to live. He orders a “Remember Me” bot which would replace him to take care of his family.
  • Peg signed up for a space program. She is floating through the asteroids and debris as she narrates the story of her high school crush and her trauma at having an AI replacement for her dead father.
  • Sasha was forced to stay isolated in a smart home during the pandemic. But when the world was safe to get back out, she refused to leave the house, thinking it was all a ploy by the company.
  • Jenny is drunk as she talks about her awful memories of being fired from babysitting her Neighbour’s kid, as well as being ridiculed for having bled through her dress after an unexpected miscarriage at a party.
  • Nera is going through labor and unfortunately loses all contact with the authorities due to poor connectivity. She ends up delivering the baby herself and then is shocked to see him age progressively.
  • Stuart is in a memory rehab center, suffering from a condition similar to Alzheimer’s. Otto seeks him out to get his memories of his mother back from him.

1.1 Which Of The Stories Are Connected?

A direct connection between episodes two and three are observed. In episode 2, Tom talks about his family and mentions his adoptive daughter Peg, who later confirms that she lost her father and an AI Bot replaced him.

There is also a reference to the Remember Me Bots in Jenny’s episode 5. A magazine is shown with the title ‘meeting your Remember Me Bots’. The rest of the stories are primarily independent, except for episode 7.

Episode 7 deals with Stuart, an older man who suffers from brain damage due to his memory addiction. It is then addressed that all his memories—stories in Solos are the memories he had stolen by hacking into companies with memory banks.

2. How Does Stuart Get His Memories Back?

Otto reveals that Stuart is suffering from brain damage due to his memory addiction instead of typical Alzheimer’s disease. After having injected multiple memories in himself, his neurons got burned and caused a progressing memory loss.

However, Otto uses a blackmarket memory regeneration device to inject stem cells into Stuart. The injected stem cells regenerate his lost memory, and Stuart reveals bits and pieces from what he remembered as Otto regenerated his memories.

3. Why Does Otto Take Back His Memories?

A direct reason that Otto takes back Stuart’s memories is not revealed in the episode. However, Otto might have done it as an act of revenge for taking away his memories.

But it may also be that since those weren’t Stuart’s memories, it wasn’t right to leave them with him. Well, whatever the reason may be, he couldn’t let Stuart have those memories. And there’s a high chance that Otto would feel a sense of responsibility and return those memories to the banks.

Well, it’ll probably remain a mystery. Solos is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
