The James Wan-directed movie was being filmed in Hertfordshire, England, since late June. The country has been experiencing a new surge of cases since its last peak in March this year. It has been speculated that Momoa caught it during his time there.

Fortunately, Momoa does not seem to be suffering from any major symptoms as of now and is said to be isolating.

Warner Bros is reported to be taking more precautions to ensure that the rest of the cast and crew remain safe. This will include subjecting the crew to more regular Covid-19 checks.

Many wonder if Momoa caught the virus from someone on set or outside the film crew. If it is the former, it might mean big trouble for Aquaman 2. Already, the film production has been delayed “indefinitely,” and any further cases will only make that longer.

An inside source stated to The Sun:

But it’s a real headache for the film’s bosses, who are now worrying about having to delay their tight filming schedule […] They are hoping this is a one-off and that they can work around Jason and continue filming on the production.

If the rest of the crew test negative, Aquaman 2 may pick up filming those parts that don’t need Momoa in it until he has recovered. But all things given, it is unknown if the film will push back its release date of December 16, 2022.

Aquaman 2 is proving to be quite an arduous project to film, especially for Momoa, who had previously injured himself on set. A filming incident caused injury to his eye, wherein something got caught in it and cut it up. Besides getting treatment for this, Momoa has to also get a hernia surgery.

Momoa has no qualms admitting that his Arthur Curry is becoming an “ageing superhero.” But a superhero nonetheless, I must add. Hopefully, Momoa has a speedy recovery — not simply for the sake of the film but his own health as well.

In the meantime, you can catch Momoa on-screen as Duncan Idaho in Dune, now in theatres and on HBO Max.
