Creed III Trailer Teases Something Different from its Predecessor

The Creed franchise has recently released the trailer for its last installment, and it is different from its predecessors in many ways. It shows an avatar of Adonis that is finally out of the shadows of his master, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone).

CREED III | Official Trailer

Rocky Balboa has always godfathered the Creed franchise with Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), carrying his legacy into the ring and becoming a legend in his circle.

Not only does it deal with the exponential stardom that comes with boxing and sports in general, but it also covers the highs and lows of a star.

The nuances of the 40 years of friendship between Rocky and Adonis’s father, Apollo Creed, have been a central point of the franchise and have touched the hearts of the audience.

But this time, it is different.

For starters, there is a time jump of seven years. Our favorite Adonis ‘Donny’ Creed now has a daughter with his better half, Bianca. His life turns upside down when an old friend appears after 18 years.

Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors), an integral part of Adonis’ dark childhood, makes a comeback, and we don’t get a good vibe from his overly amicable entrance into Adonis’ life.

It also seems like he was a boxing prodigy before going to prison, and he has come back to take what is rightfully his, i.e., the crown of the champion, away from Adonis Creed.

The trailer teases an unfortunate event in their past which has caused a paradigm shift in their future trajectories. While Adonis got out of it, Damian paid the price in prison.

Now, Adonis has to confront his guilt and face Damian, who seeks redemption under the camouflage of friendship. And if that means fighting his childhood best friend, then so be it.

Damian: Imagine spending half your life in a cell watching somebody else live your life…

Guilt can keep on bubbling like acid in one’s conscience forever. Creed III plays on that emotion. Damian and Adonis’ childhood was poisoned with cops and crime. One was able to power through it, and the other wasn’t. Now Damian blames Adonis for inadvertently massacring his early life.

Creed III is more about accepting the past and making peace with it than seeking revenge. It is about winning an old friend back than defeating him.

Damian is not precisely a quintessential villain who needs to be shown his place. He is Adonis’ friend, and the chronology of events has questioned that friendship. Will it stand the test of time?

Creed III arrives exclusively in theaters on March 3, 2023.
