Dwayne Johnson Joins Warner Bros’ ‘DC League of Super-Pets’

Dwayne Johnson has been cast to play Krypto in Warner Bros.’ DC League of Super-Pets. Based on various DC Comics characters, the film will follow Superman’s super-powered pet canine as he teams up to fight crime with Streaky the Supercat while the Man of Steel enjoys his vacation.

Nearly a year after the first teaser came out at the DC FanDome, Variety has now confirmed that Johnson has signed on to star as Krypto the Superdog in the upcoming animated film. The outlet also reported that the former pro wrestler would produce the movie via his Seven Bucks Productions company.

Although no other cast members have been selected yet, the studio is apparently looking for more A-list stars to voice the other characters. Given Johnson’s celebrated film career spanning almost two decades and his bulky stature and lovable personality, fans have been vying for the actor to jump into the world of superheroes.

With Black Adam finally having begun filming after being in development since 2006, Johnson will soon make his live-action debut in the DCEU franchise. But considering that the story of League of Super-Pets centers around Krypto and Streaky’s duo, a commanding voice is required for the role of the super pet, and Johnson seems like the perfect choice.

Thus, it will mark the actor’s second superhero and DC Comics project alongside his current film, Black Adam.

League of Super-Pets was first announced back in mid-2018 with co-writer of The Lego Batman Movie, Jared Stern tapped to write and co-direct the film. A year later, Sam Levine was brought in for his directorial debut as the other co-director, and a release date of May 2022 was decided. However, word on the project mainly remained silent until its teaser was dropped at the DC FanDome last year.

Whether fans are uncertain about the film or thrilled for it, the news regarding Johnson’s involvement both as an actor and producer has been taken well by audiences. Even though Johnson’s acting career initially started with some poor choices, he has undoubtedly become more thoughtful over the years about his decisions.
