The Bad Batch Accelerated Aging and Omega’s Paradox Explained

If you love Star Wars stories about rebellions against the Empire, you’re going to love The Batch Bad. The show has recently come back with S2 and you absolutely cannot miss it!

For fans who are tuning into Star Wars: The Bad Batch after watching their introduction in The Clone Wars’ last season, you might notice a considerable difference — The Bad Batch has aged significantly, turning from young men in their 30s to old men in their 60s, in a span of only 15 years!

How is this possible? Do they age faster?

Like most Clone Troopers, Clone Force 99 AKA The Bad Bad has accelerated aging too. While their aging speed has not been specified, as per depiction in The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, they seem to age twice as faster.

I bet you have more questions on this front, especially in regard to Omega and how it affects the show’s overall story. Let’s get into it!

Why does The Bad Batch age faster? How?

The Bad Batch

All Clone Troopers, including The Bad Batch, had their DNA altered to age faster so the Republic/Empire could quickly “manufacture” a large number of human soldiers to fight in their armies.

When the Clone Troopers were originally created, they were manufactured under the Republic’s regime. This was because a conflict broke out between the Republic and the star systems (AKA Separatists) that wanted to leave and become independent.

So the Republic manufactured clones that would age quickly and have enhanced physical strength, which they could use to battle armies against the Separatists in the ensuing Clone Wars.

As The Bad Batch was also part of this army, they were created in the same way — with accelerated aging. However, the big twist is that they had some “defects” (hence, the name Bad Batch) due to which they are able to exercise free will. However, they continue to have accelerated aging as depicted in the show.

The Omega Paradox: Does she have accelerated age?

Omega does not have accelerated aging, as she’s a pure clone of Jango Fett who did not have any DNA alterations. She is technically older than The Bad Batch as she was created before them.

As revealed in S1, Omega is an “enhanced” pure clone of Jango and she was never fitted with any inhibitor chips nor was her DNA modified for any physical changes, like accelerated aging or enhanced physical strength. All of Omega’s “enhancements” seem to be of a mental nature, like her intelligence and computing.

But the debate of her age especially pitted against the Clone troopers/The Bad Batch is a tricky one.

Omega was created way before The Bad Batch, so technically she is older than them. However, she physically ages at a normal speed while they age twice as fast — which is why they look older than her and even treat her as a kid sister.

Another way to quantify this is that The Bad Batch definitely has more life experience than her, given that they were trained for battle and are always dealing with conflict.

So is Omega older than The Bad Batch? Yes, technically she is as she was “created” before them. But in terms of mental maturity and physicality, she is still younger than them.
