Doctor Strange 2 Trailer Unleashes A Flurry of New Characters

Marvel just dropped the full-length trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and there is so much going on that I don’t even know where to begin.

As if the short teaser during the post-credit of Spider-Man: No Way Home wasn’t overwhelming enough, Marvel decided to reveal the grand trailer at Super Bowl LVI.

Before anything else, we now know Dr Strange 2 is going to be a horror film just like Sam Raimi promised. Almost all the MCU fans would agree that Multiverse of Madness is what the whole Phase 4 has been leading up to, like joining the jigsaw puzzles bit by bit for the final reveal.

The trailer did not hold back on revealing key characters, unlike NWH, as we hear a “mysterious” voices state, “We should tell him the truth.” That voice, without a doubt, belongs to Professor X.

There’s no way Marvel thought people wouldn’t recognize Sir Patrick Stewart’s voice. So what if Prof Xavier is dead in the X-Men timeline, this is the multiverse we’re talking about!

Prof X’s voice was far from the surprise of finding out that Wanda could be the ultimate villain. Agatha did say Scarlet Witch’s powers exceeded even the Sorcerer Supreme’s. This means fans are now gearing up for two of the most powerful magical superheroes going up against each other.

You break the rules and become the hero. I do it and I become the enemy. That doesn’t seem fair

Wanda Maximoff

The trailer introduced us to the Illuminati Hall (looking eerily similar to the Time Keepers Hall from Loki). Formed by Tony Stark in the comics, the Illuminati comprised of Iron Man, Charles Xavier, Black Bolt, Doctor Strange, Reed Richards, Black Panther, Captain America, Beast, and Namor.

A new name was Namor who we know will join Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Dr Strange 2 might as well be a soft introduction to Namor’s character.

There is also a glimpse of the Captain Marvel variant as teased in the official Marvel poster featuring her logo on one of the broken shards. Speaking of logos, we see Captain Carter’s shield, which might hint at Peggy making her live-action debut after What If…?

Another new ally for Strange is America Chavez – MCU’s latest Young Avengers recruit.

What’s more, it looks like there will be 2-3 versions of all the main characters. There were two of Wanda and three of Strange in the main trailer.

The Super Bowl TV Spot, which had some shots not featured in the main trailer, introduced zombie versions of Wanda and Strange. Thus making the What If…? connection even stronger.

Other honorable mentions are Rintrah the minotaur and Defender Strange, who has his own life-size statue. Here’s hoping there’s another Wong version who’s sympathetic because Strange really needs all the help he can get.

After watching the clip over and over again, trying to analyze the hell out of it, I’m certain that fans are simply not prepared for what the Doctor Strange sequel is about to unleash on May 6, 2022.
