Doctor Strange 2 Reshoots Are Related To Logistics, Not Storyline

Benedict Cumberbatch confirms that Doctor Strange into the Multitude of Madness reshoots account for logical problems brought about by the pandemic.

Like many movies, Doctor Strange 2 shifted around dates before settling on its current release of May 6, 2022. As filming was understandably rushed during the pandemic, the extended-release date does give the production team some space to reshoot scenes to perfect the movie.

The same has been stated by Cumberbatch in an interview with Empire magazine, who expressed that the reshoots were due to Covid-restricted logistics:

We’re in the middle of reshoots and we’re working incredibly hard to make a schedule work to realize the full potential of the film — bits that we want to do better but also bits that were just impossible to do on the day because of logistics, COVID, etc.

Below is a screengrab of his full interview with the magazine. Cumberbatch talks about his other projects as well, including What If…?, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, and The Power of the Dog.

For those who were afraid that the reshoots were a last-minute saving grace for the movie, can rest assured that they are anything but. I’m sure that the additional photography will only elevate the already brilliant film.

While Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Wong finished their additional photography in September, Cumberbatch’s reshoots only began in November. The reshoots are scheduled for six weeks and will conclude by December.

There were, however, rumors floating around that “logistical” restrictions also meant that a few actors who were not available during the pandemic could now be possibly included in the additional filming going on.

As for who these actors/characters could be… remains a mystery.

Spider-Man: No Way Home

Unlike Spider-Man: No Way Home, not much has been revealed/leaked about Doctor Strange 2. All we know is that we will see a lot more of the multiverse, madness, and Doctor Strange facing a friend-turned-enemy in the form of Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Karl Mordo.

Is it still too early to plead for a teaser? We can hope for one to be released after No Way Home’s theatrical release.
