Doctor Who Season 13 Will Return in Late 2021, Teaser Reveals

A teaser released for Comic-Con @ Home confirms that Doctor Who Season 13 will return in late 2021. The thirteenth Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker is joined by Mandip Gill’s Yasmin Khan and a new companion in the form of John Bishop’s Dan Lewis.

When we last saw the Doctor, she was battling it out with the Time Lords’ eternal enemies, the Daleks, in Season 12’s Special.

After this, the Doctor says her finals goodbyes to companions Graham O’Brien and Ryan Sinclair played by Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole respectively.

As one of the longest-running TV shows, Doctor Who goes through the trial of constantly reinventing itself or introducing new elements to keep the magic alive. After all, there is only so much the regenerative trick of switching actors can do.

One such plot arc was introduced through the course of Season 12’s events, where the Doctor finds out that she is the Timeless Child – a mythical being in Galifrayan lore who is said to be responsible for the Time Lords’ regenerative abilities.

Season 13 is expected to explore the history and implications in more detail.

The 45-second teaser does not give out much, as even fans in the comments section have expressed how it was repetitive, choppy and did not incite much excitement. Perhaps, a more revealing trailer will be released closer to the air date.

What we do know is: Jodie Whittaker will return as the Doctor in Season 13, to be aired in later 2021. The Doctor has not yet disclosed to her companions the truth about her past.

We might see her trying to grapple with it on her own before her companions get a hint of it. Tensions may rise high, and of course, abetted with some adversaries to face in the new season.

Other than Bishop, Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm on Game of Thrones) will be entering the Whoniverse as Vindor.

Due to the pandemic, Season 13 will only be eight episodes long, instead of the usual 10. We’re sure there will also be a Special to look forward to.
