Black Noir’s Arc Comes to a Tragic End in The Boys

Black Noir’s presence in Season 3 of The Boys has been minimal but impactful. In the finale, too, we see him briefly, but in those few minutes, the supe’s arc comes to a shocking halt. Here’s what happens.

Black Noir gets killed by Homelander after the latter discovers that Noir knew about Homelander’s father but chose not to tell him. Homelander pulls his guts out, and Noir takes his last breath.

Throughout the season, we’ve seen Black Noir’s story unfold before us. Right from his days on Team Payback, we see how he’s a person of color who wants to represent his community by being an openly Black superhero.

However, we later find out how Soldier Boy (Payback’s leader) mistreated him and everyone else on the team. So, on Stan Edgar’s orders, Black Noir and the rest of the team betray Soldier Boy and give him up to the Russians.

As we all know, Soldier Boy is freed by the boys and returns with a vengeance on his mind. After taking out Crimson Countess, the TNT Twins, and Mindstorm, he goes after Black Noir, the person who orchestrated the entire thing in Nicaragua.

Black Noir, by this time, had gone AWOL almost immediately after hearing about Soldier Boy’s return. But after some deliberation, he decides to come out of hiding, approach Homelander, and convince him to kill Soldier Boy.

But Noir’s too late. Homelander had already come to know of Soldier Boy being his father. After Mindstorm’s revelation, Soldier Boy came to know that Homelander was his son, and he shared this information with the all-American supe too.

Homelander is now in pieces because Vought and Stan Edgar hid it from him all these years. However, he hated how Black Noir, his most trusted peer, betrayed him. So when Black Noir returns and tries to convince Homelander, the latter asks him if he lied.

When Noir nods, confirming this, Homelander’s eyes well up, and in one swift movement, he punches a hole through Noir’s stomach, reaches out for his gut, and pulls it out. The supe falls to the floor, and in his last moments, he sees his animated friends who tell him how proud they are of him.

The animated cartoons abruptly disappear, indicating that Black Noir is dead for good. I might not be Mindstorm, but I know what you’re wondering.

Will Black Noir return to The Boys?

Black Noir will most likely not return to The Boys. Even if he does, it would be someone else under the mask.

The Boys has already pulled off the ‘Oh! They’re not dead.’ moment multiple times across the show and even in this season. Not killing Black Noir for good would destroy the impact we felt while watching that scene and the whole finale.

After all, the show still has Soldier Boy and Homelander alive, so we need somebody to die to feel that the stakes are real. I can’t wait to see Season 4, considering a lot hangs in the balance for characters such as Billy Butcher and Ryan. It will be an excruciatingly painful wait, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

About The Boys

The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.

The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
